How to book a waitlist? (or should I book a waitlist?)

Hi,
I've never done a waitlist before, so I can't figure out the best way...

I have booked a reservation for BLT (home resort) for a 1 bedroom lake view from Jan 1 - 4. But, Dec. 31st is sold out (and we have bought plane tickets to arrive on Dec. 31st). So, I want to waitlist for Dec. 31st.

Do I:
1) Book just Dec. 31st as a waitlist?
2) Book Dec. 31st - Jan 4 as a waitlist to replace by Jan 1 - 4 reservation? (and, if I am authorizing borrowing, will it borrow based on the full points for the 4 nights, or only the net difference between the 4 nights I want and the 3 nights already booked)
3) Neither - because it seems very unlikely I get a room, and best to just book CR on cash and move after the first night?

Thank you so much!

Make a wait list for just the night you are missing. A wait list for 4 nights will go unfilled unless all 4 nights become available whereas a wait list for just the one night will get filled if only that one night opens up.

You can always book CR for cash and cancel the reservation if your waitlist fills.

Only waitlist the one night you need. Getting one night is a lot easier than getting multiple nights. Since you know you are going, you can set the waitlist to expire at 7 days prior to arrival instead of 31.

Also, keep checking availability for that one night. You might get lucky and find that one night open before the waitlist process grabs.

As for booking a cash room, check the cancellation policy. As room only reservation, you should be able to cancel much closer to the actual check in date.

In addition to the waitlist for the one night, keep checking the website periodically, just in case it shows up because we really do not know how often the waitlist runs. Sometimes it seems to take rooms immediately and other times it does not.

So, what you do after you get your additional night (assuming it is the same resort/room type/view type) is to call/chat with/email member services and have them combine the two reservations.

Great point! - yes, same room/resort
