How to Avoid the Brazilian Tour Groups?

Seems to me that any larger group nowadays have been labeled BTG even if they are not from Brazil AT ALL. A bit of prejudice perhaps?

Schools are in session here in Brazil so I doubt the majority of those groups are really Brazilian. Parents (and schools) are way less lenient to the idea of taking kids out of school for an extended period of time just so their teens can go to Disney and believe me, schools won't accept a "trip report" as a extra class project to make it up for losing one-two weeks of classes.

We go to WDW every January, usually stay at values, and have never had any trouble with BTG. Most I've talked to have been very nice and friendly.

As a mod I have seen this thread a 1,000 times and it always ends up being locked or deleted. So please be polite and keep it on tract.Or it will be 1,001.Thanks Danny

It's not Spring Break just yet, but the parks are crowded. Why? BRAZILIAN TOUR GROUPS. I always run into them, but lately I've been hearing for the past couple days that there's an over-flow of them. I'm going to Epcot and MK on Sunday and want to know how to avoid them. I plan to be at Epcot park opening, and I plan on leaving Epcot around Noon or 1 PM and taking a monorail over to MK. TIA!

We went July 5-10 one year and the parks were packed with Brazilian Tour Groups. A CM at BTMR told me that they come every July and August. One thing I can say is avoid July like the plague.

I've been in Oct, Nov, and Feb....and each trip we have seen tour groups. Feb was tour groups and cheerleaders....cheerleaders were worse in my opinion.

How we've dealt with them is that we go ride a nearby ride, but not get into the line they are getting in. It doesn't always work, but it can help.

We did encounter a situation where a group tried to cut in front of us, but their tour leader stopped them and just let us and another family go in front of everyone in the group so they could be together.

I guess we've been lucky, we've had times where we were the only people around us speaking English, and we've heard the chanting, and have experienced attempted line cutting....but we really didn't have an overall negative experience...other than when they all get in line, it does bump up the wait time.

I have never really minded tour groups. Yes the kids cheer and are a little loud but I find it fun to watch these kids enjoying life! If I did have one complaint, it would be getting caught in the path of a tour group. I do not like to break in between a moving tour group to cross over (I try to avoid this with families too). I think it makes it harder for groups to stay together. So if you feel the same way I suggest when you see a flag coming your way then pick up your pace so you can cross before they get near. One trip a couple years ago it became funny when ever one of us would spot a flag. Someone would yell flag and we would haul butt!! :)

Lots of groups of teenagers were there in July. We talked to several of the kids and they were all so nice. If you see a big group getting on a ride, go to another one. That's what we did and had a wonderful day.

You can't..Its like avoiding kids ..not gonna happen.I was at Universal in Jan and was surprised there were any people left in South America that week.....I have to admit ,It was much easier to do at Universal since they generally do not have the express pass.

FP/NexGen...mystery solved! ;) :rotfl:

why let these groups ruin your vacation and why spend any time trying to figure out a way to avoid them.....No matter what their money keeps us going too , i know some of them are loud but its like people said if they bother you that much then just walk in a different direction... The last thing on my mind planning my trips is figuring out how to avoid these groups....:flower3:

The chanting in Portuguese is a dead give away. While, that type a behavior, may be culturally accepted in Brazil..they are in a foreign country. They should be more respectful and aware of their behavior. I've taught, my children and grandchildren to respect others...no matter where they are. But, they should be especially mindful in other countries. They will NOT be "the ugly American".

Nah not prejudice at all...It is the chanting in Portuguese and the tour guide flags with the Brazilian flag on them that clued me in..I have nothing against them,or any other large group. but when you go to a foreign country, learn a little bit about expected behaviors. If you are touring with a cheering group/football group ,or whatever realize that you are not the only group there and respect that other people are on their hard earned vacations too.

My point is that all tour groups, no matter where they are from, are loud. This is not a characteristic of only Brazilians tour groups. They could be Argentinian, Italians, Australians, Chineses... but it always come back to "they must be Brazilians".

I'm not saying I agree with their behavior and I do agree they should at least be considerate of others, realizing they are not in their own country and they should be respectful towards all.

And NO, it's not culturally acceptable in Brazil to act like an idiot an go around screaming, chanting and being overall obnoxious. I actually despise the way they portray themselves and how all others Brazilians are now stigmatized by their poor behavior.

You will never see me touring with one of those groups, most of them are rude and way too crass for my taste. I don't cut lines, I don't go around chanting and I won't be acting like a moron just because I'm not on my own country. I just wish people in general would stop generalizing and realize that just because a handful of groups behave in a bad way, not all of them will.

Watch out for them at the major FP locations! I was in line at opening for Toy Story Mania and luckily ended up in the line next to the tour guide...who was holding at least 75 KTTW. Someone at Star Tours was holding 30+. I know Disney recommends only one person in line (a good policy), so just be aware of what shirts people are wearing or take a glance at how many keys they might be holding.

Pretty easy to have that view when you aren't planning to be there when the tour groups are. My next trip is during the 4th July.

You better believe I'm doing all I can to avoid tour groups.

Yeah, I know how it feels to always run into tour groups, try to go during the off season, or towards the end of Spring Break!

I think my only beef with the Gazillion Brazillians (their little flags and shirts said Brazil. lol) was that a good bit of Photopass opps were obscured because they were blocking it by gathering all in one place instead of leaving some room for pics. Random flag here, people bumped there, that kind of thing.

It's tough for sure but hey, it's Disney :wizard: You learn to adjust to it all and find your own picture spots :)

Recently, an announcement was made, that our government will make it easier for Brazilians to apply for visas. It's going to be even more difficult to avoid, those large, loud, obnoxious, tour groups.:scared:

I really don't know much about these sort of things but I saw someone post that making it easier to get visas will result in more families and less tour groups.

I'm not sure what chineses is ...

You said how awful their behavior is so you yourself legitimized the complaints. Even though earlier you were saying that people stereotyPe BTG after people explained how they know it was brazillizn and not um Chineses you are now saying these crass (your words) groups are stigmatizing Brazillians.

You're off base. I have never seen anyone criticize a brazil family or individual. No one has ever said to ban all Brazillians. I'm guessing most people on here have no issue with Brazillians- it's the tour groups that you also said were awful that everyone has an issue with.

Seems we are all in agreement so that's good.
