How the shopping there? What can you get for really great prices? What have you bought and do you feel like you've got a deal? I've been to Tiajuana several times so I can haggle..but haven't bought jewelry or silver, gold, diamonds, etc. I am sure there's t shirt places (like the $5 for $10 places), was wondering on bigger ticket items. Thanks!

I have been there 3 times. NOT impressed. You can get the same or better deals at home. JMO

I agree. When we were there, the alcohol, the jewelry, etc was priced the same as in MN. Not sure what the attraction is....

Maybe it's on the cheaper items? I've read where some people have gotten deals on things like silver items. If I don't see any deals..I suppose I just stick with souveniors.

I too, felt the prices were only marginally better. For example, we looked at Tommy Bahama clothes for my husband and the prices were maybe $5 to $10 cheaper, at the most. I was pricing a Longchamps purse/bag -- that sells at Nordstrom for the same price as in the shop in Nassau. Designer jewerly -- David Yurman, etc. was virtually the same price -- I don't know about the other, non designer, jewerly -- although, I really liked a platinum ring (non-designer) and they were willing to negotiate quite a bit below the list price. I didn't end up buying it - but, it seemed they were very willing to work with people on these type of items.

Watches, again, the designer, Rolex, Tag, etc. -- were a bit cheaper as well.

I am sort of apprehensive about buying those things in those type settings. As like in Tiajuana most of the stuff are knock offs or fake (watches, jewelry, purses, etc.) We did get great deals on these huge thick and heavy blankets and liquor. We're not doing any excursions in Nassau..just a little shopping and then back to the boat...I am not really looking for anything in particular. I don't know how they can advertise it to be "deals" when they are the same price as in the U.S. They really shouldn't do that. What a bummer!

Please, please, do all your shopping at Nordstrom! The customer service there can't be beat :rolleyes1

Iwas not impressed with the shopping. The straw market was not much to write home about, there were some interesting trinkets. It was a good thing that we went during low season as I could not imagine being there amongst a large crowd, I would go crazy. As for the rest of the shops, I did not find them too interesting nor inviting.

the duty free liquor prices were pretty good - and they had a variety of bahamian rum - which we don't usually see at home

I can recommend a store called Royal Palm on Bay street - a very nice selection of Tommy Bahama and similar quality clothes - some 30% off.

Plus I liked a store called Little argentina - also on Bay Street - very small , not a lot of merchandise but very unusual unique items (for women). They had some great "football" shirts, i.e., soccer, not american football, too.
