Can someone, the best you can, tell me how to pronounce Curacao? I looked it up in the dictionary and I didn't understand their symbols.

And while we're on the subject - Puerto Quetzal - I know the Puerto part.

Thanks in advance - I want to "fit in" with the locals

Couldn't figure out how to write that for you so I looked it up in the AAA Caribbean travel guide.

Don't worry Lisa--she is correct. It is pronounced KEY.

Puerto Quetzal is pronounced sort of like saying kate's all.

Puerto Quetzal is in Guatemala, from what I read there isn't much to do there, everything to do is inland so I am wondering how much can get done with in the 6 hrs (Eastbound Repo) we will be docked there.

Either KUR or KEAR is acceptable for the first syllable from what I've heard. (KUR like the first syllable in current, KEAR rhyming with TEAR like you're crying, not ripping paper). The rest is just like above.

We were taught in travel agent school that the correct pronunciation of "cay" was "key". Great. Loved hearing "Castaway KEY" on the DCL DVD. Then, they talking about the restaurant Parrot KAY. Ack!

Any idea why they would have 2 different pronunciations in the same video?

Maybe because they weren't even sure of the "proper" pronunciation, but using both you at least get it right once.

Isn't Curacao the "C" in the "ABC Islands"? I.E., Aruba-Bonaire-Curacao?

You know i was just looking at the world map figuring how the Magic would cruise from Ca to Fl and do you realized that there are different time zones as we stop througout the ports!! We will be losing an hour, i think 3 or 4 times as we moved closer to to the East....

The westbound cruise however, will gain an hour (3 or 4 times) as it get closer to Ca!!!

Both pronunciations are correct. I think it's somewhat a matter of dialect. Just as people pronounce Caribbean in two ways, so too do people pronounce cay. But, either is correct.

This is so great. I can tell we are going to learn a lot with this cruise. I was totally mispronouncing Curacao! I had no idea it was near Aruba and Bonaire until I looked on a map. Thanks for the link.
