How strict are they about DVC member cards?

When we first bought SSR, we got temporary membership cards that expire Dec. 2004. I haven't yet received my permanent membership card, but am going to WDW on Sunday and would like to buy my son an annual pass with the DVC discount. I wonder if they'll notice or penalize me for the expired card...... I called MS today and they said I could go to the SSR visitor center when we arrive for a new temp card, but I was hoping to go straight to MK when we get there. Any thoughts?

While it more than likely would not be a problem, with my luck I'd get a new CM, or one that is not familiar with the overall DVC program, and think your membership really has "expired". Personally, I'd go by and get the cards prior to getting the AP.

I purchased my Ap's downtown with my Disney visa and on the bottom it says disney vacation club and they accepted that.

Sorry, but that really upsets me. They should be strictly enforcing the policies. No membership card, no matching ID, no pass. I'm not flaming you--just pointing out that I don't consider it good news that they did this.

This is a perk that cost the members nothing so if they allow a few not under the rules to get passes or without "proper" documentation, it doesn't hurt anyone. This was a legitimate pass but without the gold standard in documentation, they should have sold the pass. There will be many who really shouldn't have gotten the pass but do, inconsistency is the Disney way.

Maybe the CMs have access to a computerized list of DVC members and can easily check to be sure they are dealing with a DVC member - it's certainly possible.

Best wishes -

Yes, I suppose that is possible, Carol. But they should at least ask for photo ID even in that instance. And I respectfully disagree that there is no cost to members--the new AP discount may not directly be paid in dollars out of our dues, but it IS being paid for by those members who cannot take advantage of the discount due to shorter length stays. Those members had a discount for shorter stays previously--they don't have one now, partially as a result of the AP discount being the chosen discount for DVC members now. Therefore, some members ended up worse off than they were before--that is a cost. One can argue that this will always be the case with member perks--probably true. But the least they can do is make sure it is truly a MEMBER perk for current members and follow the stated rules. It gripes me to no end for them to make rules and then not enforce them (I'm not talking about making exceptions, since for every rule there probably should be exceptions--I'm talking about wholesale disregard for the rules). Not saying that is what happened here, though. And obviously someone who was eligible for the discount got it, so no problem there.

Was this a voucher or the actual annual pass? If it was just a voucher, they will have to show their DVC member card at time of exchange.
Also, when you say "downtown", what do you mean?

We purchased our AP's at DTD last week. We had to present our DVC card and photo ID. The CM said that with the DVC card pulled up all of our information, but he still required a photo ID for DH and myself. We were also using our Disney Visa card to make our purchase. I am sure that all CM's are different, but we had one that was nice, but seemed to be really following the rules.

Your Disney Visa says DVC Member on it? May I ask how you got that added to your card as mine doesn't mention it?

Thanks!
PJ

I've had my Disney Visa longer than I've been a member of DVC. Do you know if I could get it added on somehow? Doubt it!

When the Disney Crad first came out, you could apply for one through the DVC Member web site. If you did, the card states "Disney Vacation Club" on it and Cardmember since "Day 1" if you got it right away.

I'm not sure if you can get one through the site anymore or not.

Thanks! My card does say Member Since Day 1 but not DVC Member.

Well first off I did'nt post to get anyones blood boiling, and second anyone who has a disney visa and can prove memebership can have new cards sent out with the disney vacation club written on the bottom.Just call the 1 800 number on back of card...

Doctor P, there is absolutely no cost to DVC or the members if Disney lets a few passes through at a reduced price. There is a cost to WDW themselves but what that cost is can be hard to determine since the one who gets the pass that maybe shouldn't have might have bought a different ticket type. While I don't know for certain, I sincerely doubt that DVC pays WDW ANYTHING toward the passes for the members. This is a perk offered by WDW to DVC, not necessarily one brokered by DVC. Loss of a previous perk is certainly not a current cost to anyone and it has nothing to do with the current pass discount.

In general terms, I don't buy in to the loss of exclusivity being costly to the members though I know some do. If you look at the rules, it would be VERY easy to get multiple passes for family members, friends, etc. All it would take would be some type of ID that has the same address as a member. And I'm betting they'll be able to renew at the reduced price indefinitely without any further documentation but we shall see on that one.

Just an update for anyone else interested, I called the 800 number on my card today and they said that DVC Member could not be added to existing account cards but they gave me the number to call to apply for a Disney Visa that would have DVC Member printed on it. It isn't worth it to me if I have to open another account.
