I would love to be able to make it to Disney for our annual Marathon trip in January but our newest addition will only by 5 months old. I was wondering how soon was too sson to take a baby to Disney. Any advice you could give would be great!!

My "number last" went on his first vacation when he was not yet two months old. It wasn't Disney but he did have quite a good time at Hershey Park for 4 days. :rotfl2: I think b/c he was born weighing over 10 pounds (10 lbs 1/4 oz and I still remind him about it!) and looked "older" than most 2-monthers that I didn't get as many nasty looks as I expected. Not that I would have let that bother me. He was such a good natured, easy going baby and with two other older siblings he had no choice but to go along with the show. You have to do what's best for your family.

I would not do it. You won't enjoy it as much either. Give it some time and your baby will quickly addicted to the mouse.:yay:

We just returned from a trip with our 2 month old and it was great!! We brought a baby carrier with us which we used during the rides. Our first son was about 8 months during his first trip, he loved all the colors and characters:) I would definitely recommend it!

We just got back with and our youngest dd was 5mo. She was the easy one. The 3.5 and 6 yo were much more work. The logistics could be more challenging if you bottle feed, but we just bf pretty much anywhere and it was very easy. I carried her in a sling 80% of the time. Dd slept great in the pack and play. We turned in early most nights because if we didn't she would fall asleep in a sling and then be awake for awhile after coming back to the room, although the older two don't do well out late either so it worked out fine.
I say go for it. Jan has great weather for a little one, so overheating is also less of an issue.

I did it with both of my kids when they were that young. You will have a great time!
Advice: We had the formula delivered to the resort from the formula company in disposable bottles with disposable nipples. It made it a great deal easier to just toss the bottle and nipple into recycling instead of washing and haveing to warm a bottle, or keep it cool.

We are traveling this coming October. Our newest addition will be 8 weeks old, about 2 months.
I BF exclusively and have always been a baby wearing kind of mom, so it's no biggie for me! A baby that small is happy anywhere. I find it much easier to travel with an infant than a toddler with opinions!
I certainly would never plan a trip if this was my first child! But having done this twice before, I feel it should go smoothly. What do I need to bring for an infant that small?? Food is all set and ready to go.... all I need are diapers, wipes and a change of clothes.
My older kids... they need much more!
I say go for it!

My DD was exactly 5 months old on her first trip to Disney. It does take more thought as far as extra clothes, diapers, feedings, naps (if you choose to return to your room for that), etc... the same types of things that you would be doing if you were out and about running errands in town. It is very doable and we really enjoy the fact that we have pictures of us and DD with the characters as a baby that we can all look back on fondly. Her 5th birthday will be in July and that will be her 14th trip. I guess that it didn't take her too long to get addicted. Have fun! :flower3:

My DS took his first trip at 5 months.
I was still nursing it was a great trip.
I guess maybe I was nursing a little less during the trip...
Anyways we ended up bringing home a little souvenier...:rolleyes1
Our own little Princess Jackie...:lmao:
So now DS and DD are 13 months apart...:lovestruc

Do it! We went last year when our youngest was almost 6 months. He was so easy. Make sure you have a good stroller that fully reclines and has a great sun hood. I would bring some kind of baby carrier too - I loved the Bjorn. We never went back to the room during the day - just packed up everything in the diaper bag and went! I had weaned him at that point so I just made sure I had enough pre-mixed formula with me. You'll be a pro packing a well-stocked diaper bag by that point. There are baby centers through out the parks that have baby items for purchase if you forget something - pricey but at least the option is there. Great spot for changing diapers and feeding. You'll have a great time, enjoy! :thumbsup2

Infants are so portable, and 5 months is a great age. Get a good sling and all of you (you, baby, and your DH) should get used to wearing it before the trip. Your baby will eat, nap, and just be perfectly content right there. If he is the curious type, he will also have a good view when he is awake. Disney (or any trip actually) is much easier with an infant than a toddler. At least that was my experience.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. I have 2 older children who will be 12 and 5 at the time we would be going. My youngest was a little over 1 when we took him for the first time. He had a great time. Now we just need to weigh our options and figure out when we really want to go. Thanks again!

We took DS at 3 months and it was our easiest trip ever with him. He has been back 4 times since (he is 3 now) and we miss the easy infant days!!!!

Yes it is a little bit more work to pack up for the parks with the formula, baby food, lots of diapers, etc but they are so portable and easy to keep happy. He slept anywhere in the crib and it really was just so easy! The toddler age is MUCH more difficult because they begin to have opinions and throw tantrums. My only advice with an infant is to bring some kind of carrier/sling because they do get tired of being in the stroller all the time and they can get heavy! We forgot ours and that was a pain.

I agree that sometimes the smaller they are, the easier they are! Just try to avoid becoming a pack mule and don't overload yourself with stuff for the parks. You're not going to wilds of Africa, after all.

I went to our local children's farm a few days ago which is right in the middle of town and I saw a mom so loaded down with just ONE baby, that I felt so sorry for her.

The only hesitance I would have about taking an infant is the weather. We went in June 2008 when it was 90 by 8 AM and saw lots of babies out in that. That worries me. But you should be fine in January.....

DS was 16 mos old on his first trip and Hypothetical Child #2 could be as young as 3 mos on our next trip so I say go for it!

Our DD was 2 and our DS was 6 months the last time we went. We had fun, but I was exhausted because DS wasn't sleeping through the night. DD slept in the living area of the suite so she wouldn't be woken by her brother. I was glad that we went, but the trip was a blur because I was so tired.

That is a great idea, wish I had thought of that last year! I will have weaned my daughter from bf by that time and she will probably be either exclusively on bottles of formula or part formula/part whole milk. Which company was it that delivered the formula??? It would be a huge relief not to have bring bottles and clean them. We use the Dr. Brown's and while I like them, they are such a pain to clean by hand with all the parts!

Thanks for starting this thread. I had been wondering how our youngest will do on our trip in Sept (she'll be 10 months old), I think she will do fine. She's the easy baby :)

We have four kids and have taken them at various ages, the youngest being 3 weeks old. It's a great way for us to have one last vacation before my maternity leave is over.

We took a 5 month old in 2007 and it was awesome!

DS#1 was 9 weeks on his first trip and DS#2 was just over 2 weeks. Go it's so easy.

DS#2 made his 2nd trip at 5 months, in October he'll just turned 2 and on his 6th trip.

We buy everything diapers, wipes, formula, baby wash from Diapers.com and have shipped directly to the resort. It's so not worth dragging it down there or running out for it thier prices are resonable. Order over $50 and 2 day shipping is free. $50 in baby items doesn't take long! You can track the order so you'll know when it gets there and it's so fast that you don't have preplan shipping stuff more than a week in advance. We've never had one problem with them.

NEVER too soon!
Our first trip we traveled with an almost 3 year old, almost 2 year old and an 8 week old. Plus friends had a almost 2 year old, and 12 week old.
Let me tell you, the easiest two from that trip were the babies! I was only nursing, which made it a breeze. She ate whenever she wanted, and I wore her from morning to night. I would wake up, stick her in the sling, and take her out to eat, change diapers and put her back in. She was the happiest thing, and all the characters loved her! Mary poppins offered to babysit!
THe older one were great too, just much more work. My 8 week old was not sleeping through the night, but once again, she nursed and slept in the bed with me while we were gone. It was easy!
