How soon can you re-dye your hair?

I recently had my hair dyed, then highlighted. I'll never again let that woman highlight my hair. I, I mean she, did a terrible job. :rolleyes1 I used a L'Oreal kit. How long should I wait before I re-dye it? I just want it one color again. Tried their website but they didn't have an FAQ section.

Try the toll free number, I called it once when I was trying to get my hair back to brown from a terrible salon done blond. They were very helpful and the advice they gave me actually worked.

Why don't you try getting a toner put on it. I sometimes just use highlights, but many times I color and highlight and I have had problems with over highlighting many times. When that happens even if I have color in my hair, I get a toner put on it, it doesn't cause damage and you can tone every month. It freshens up your color and my hair actually seems healthier afterwards.

What does the toner do, subdue the brightness of the highlights? Can I get it OTC so I can do it myself (& possible mess up again? I'm so darn cheap.)

Or you could get, "Shimmer Lights" violet shampoo. It will also tone down any brassiness you might have. You can get toner or the , "Shimmer Lights", at a Sally Beauty supply store. They also have people that work there that are knowledgeable about the products and have experience as a hairstylist. At least that's been my experience.

 I know how it feels to get an unwelcome surprise. It can make you feel panicky! Hope you can tone it down soon.

Well, what exactly is wrong?

Can you PM me a pic?

The Shimmer Lights will work if she's too brassy - but if she's too blonde, shimmer lights will give her violet/blue highlights. :scared:

I always use a colored shampoo or conditioner - I know I turned you on to them, too - and I fell asleep doing a deep conditioner with blue in it. Wanna see?

No Shimmer Lights if it's too blonde/white, already, unless you like the look I achieved. ;)

Thanks, CR. :)

I was guessing it was brassiness. But I could be wrong!

What did you do with to get the blue out? It doesn't look too noticeable to me, but it might be because of the light. I do know any color you don't want looks very noticeable to you, when it's on your head! I have had mishaps before and people would tell me it wasn't that bad. All the while I was practically doing flips thinking, "How can you not see what I see?!".

I'm glad you saw this thread, CR. I know you can help the OP.

Hey, do you have any new product suggestions for color shampoo or color conditioner? TIA!

Well, it wasn't THAT bad. I used a Malibu treatment and it got rid of it. But all that 'blue' even though not dark, was more/less "white". It had been wicked blonde before that, KWIM? So if you look all over my head - anything grey-ish, blue-ish, violet-ish - was all super light blonde just an hour earlier. ;)

What S&C are you using now? Do you mean a suggestion to replace the beloved Color Me Sexy? RIP.

No, no. Your's wasn't that bad. Mine was!

I do know what you mean though. Your sig. pic and the after picture is a big difference. Darker.

Yes! I still have some of the dc/d line. But I'm running low. I am looking for a similar replacement. Bummer when you find something you love and then "poof" it's gone. :(

OP here, no pics but my hair is brown, dyed it because some strands are color challenged (white). Then I tried to do the wispy highlight look but it looks like I gooped it on in wide patches. Actually there's not much brown showing on one side & it's pretty brassy on the other side too, along with my bangs. It said to start 1/4 inch from the scalp, well I must have been way off because it looks like my hair's been growing in for a couple of months. I just want to go back to one color now. I'll have to give L'Oreal a call.

It's weird but no-one, not my husband or the people I work with, has said anything. Usually there's 1 or 2 people who notice something right away. So maybe it's not that horrible. Just does not go with my normal, lovely ruddy, blotchy complexion. Makes me look sunburned.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Actually the sig pic is darker than it had been - it should have looked like this (this was like maybe a month before "the incident" ;) :

...instead of greyish blue. :)

Anyways.... yes there is a replacement, conditioner: http://www.chiretail.com/organics/toneandshine.html

Now, SunGlitz is also still on the market, it's just harder to find. But it's been a round a long time, and works really, really well: http://www.haircarechoices.com/deta...l?lid=104527&gclid=CLiN85qm06QCFRLLKgod8lV4JQ

I personally love the CHI line. Smells good, too.

OP - a toner would work, in your case.

That's a good picture of you, CR. Your hair looks great.

I thought of you the other day. I thought about how lucky you were to get a picture taken with Tony Curtis. I was sad that he passed away.

Anyway, thank you for the recommendations! I have them on favorites now. :)
