Hello Everybody,
This might be pretty hard if not imposible, but is always to try. We are taking a trip from Chicago to Marietta GA the weekend of father's day. We were already approved for the loan to get into DVC but as you gusy know we were debating where to get them. Well as you all know now we are able to get a better deal locally. We could go and sign a contract tomorrow. I was going to see into renting some points for ** but then I started thinking! How about if after we sign the contract we can try to get ** with our points , save the money from the rent to spend over there. The thing I don't know is, if this could be at all possible.
What do you guys think?
Do we have a chance?
Thanks as always!

When you purchase direct from DVC, the Guide is sometimes able to secure your first reservation using your new points.

However, you cannot travel until after your contract has closed, so probably a month from date of purchase would be expected - not absolutely sure, but somewhere around there.

Don't buy DVC based upon one reservation. It is a major purchase and one that you need to consider carefully.

The best thing for you is to just ask your Guide what sort of availability there is at the particular resort that you want to stay at, and just state that if you could get a reservation there for your dates that you would go ahead and buy in today. Leave it up to your Guide to see what he can do. Good luck! Oh, and wishing you a great trip to Atlanta - its hot and miserably humid (not going to lie) but I'm sure you'll still have a great time. :goodvibes

Thanks Carol,
No, we had bought at DW last PRil and then cancelled when we got home as my DH panicked. We are buying and we are well informed, I think!
but I remember that the sale person in Florida asked us if we wanted to extend our stay after we siged the contract and paid the initial 500 dollars. So I guess we could of used our points then. So I'm confused. But then again we signed all the documents for him because they were available right there.

And booked our April trip the next day with the help of our guide Linda.

Yes, but you see in this case your trip started well after your contract closing.

When we purchased in 1997, we were also offered to move from Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans) over to OKW. We declined at the time. I suppose they would keep your deposit if the purchase fell through, enough to cover the stay.

But, as far as planning a separate trip, I don't believe they will plan one for you to return for a full stay prior to closing.

We singed our contract and booked our trip the last weekend in march. Got our paperwork via fedex and closed 10 days later at the woodfield sales office, and travelled may 7th.

Great News!
My guide was able to reserve a standard studio at AKV for next Sunday/Thursday!
We will do everything over the telephone and she will us our membership number tomorrow so we can change the reservation using our points.
Thanks is amazing!
my kids don't know that they are going back to Disney so soon!
Now I have to plan everything in less then one week, but that will be a great father's day and graduation gift for my son who just finished Grammar school!
I'm so excited, it will only cost us 70 points!

Nice to see pixie dust in action! Have a wonderful time at your new home-away-from-home!!! :goodvibes

We just received our contract yesterday. It says that, basically, you can stay on points even before you close. However, there is a 'gotcha' clause that states if you fail to close, for whatever reason, you are retroactively charged rack rate for your room. At around $750 a night for a 2BR at BLT, you'd be on the hook for close to $5000 for a week.

I was approved and signed all my paperwork at the end of February/early March and got to stay at Paradise Pier on St. Patricks Day on points (couldn't get into Grand Californian my home resort) and then my daughter stayed at Disneyland Hotel (couldn't get into GC again) on points all before it closed. So on 2 trips we used almost all of our points totaling 4 days. LOL I only got the minimum of points (160) even though I wanted 220 because I didn't think I would get approved for the 220.

Good luck getting the days you want, but I would try it.
