How simple the war is through a child's eyes

Sunday DH and I had lunch with my 8-yr old cousin who had spent the night with us and a friend of ours whose husband is in Iraq. My cousin was coloring her menu when we asked our friend about her husband and when she had heard from him last. My cousin asked where her husband was and why he was there. She looked confused when the friend told her that her husband was fighting a war. My cousin said that the war was over.....it ended when those men were on the bridge and then they fell off. Now it was all of our turn to look confused. I asked her what she was talking about and she said she had seen where the men fell off the bridge and the war was over. I kept questioning her until finally she gave some more information. She had been to where the war was with her family.....down in San Antonio where they have that funny building you can go see. She thought the war we were talking about was the Alamo and was very glad that it was over and we didn't have to worry about it!

Just thought you might enjoy this story. We all did. As wrapped up in politics and debates on the war that we all get in as adults, sometimes I wish things could be as simple and innocent as a child sees them!

If only we could have children such as this run the country/world for just a few days, making binding rules, life would be so much more simple after they had at it for a bit. Thanks for sharing a sweet moment, GoofItUp.

I had posted in the past....when the 9-11 happened....it was just amazing and sad to see my youngest dd Madison so devasted toward anything she saw on the news....and she was only 5 1/2 when it happened. You never think that things would sink in her head....it isn't like I sat her down in front of anything......the TV ect....She would cry her eyes out constantly during that time....I guess, know that I think of it, I wasn't much help...but my oldest dd.....8 at the time showed no emotion to anything she saw......Guess it just shows how different your kids react to things....sorry if this had no relavance to your post....but.....I was on a roll

And just to add:

I think it is just as "simple" through our "adult eyes" sometimes.
