How short is too short?

The shortest trip I took was 5 nights, but it was the first time I took my kids without DH, and they were 4 and 6. I didn't know how it would go; turned out it was awesome! We had AP's and got a great rate at AKL.
To me, 5 nights was fun, and didn't feel too short.
We're also a 2 hour flight away. We used to get great fares from BWI on Southwest (sigh...).
If you're fine with a short trip, go for it!
