How scary is Tower of Terror?

Can anyone tell me in detail what the Tower of Terror is like? Would this be a good ride for someone who doesn't like roller coasters? How bad is the height?

The Tower of Terror is not like a roller coaster. It goes up and drops, goes back up, drops, etc. (like an elevator out of control) As far as the height, the ride drops several floors. It does go up pretty high. The one thing I did not like about this the first time I went on it was the complete darkness in the beginning of the ride. The seats move and you don't know what to expect. I guess that is suppose to be part of the thrill! :rotfl:

Hope this helps!

:lovestruc I love it!! :lovestruc We went on it 3 times in a row last time we went!!

you go up, and then d-o-w-n....then up, and then down...then up, and then down quite a few times!! All ups and downs are at different heights, sometimes in the dark, sometimes you go all the way up to see the park. (13 stories, I think)

Do you like negative g's? Where your heinie comes off the seat?
Do you like the agony of suspense???
If you answered yes, then you will love it! :cloud9: :lovestruc

The first time I went on TOT I almost started crying. Honestly. It freaked me out. BUT, after the second drop, I realized I was ok and enjoyed it! We went on it 4 times in a row! It really is just Up and down, in no particular order. You can ride it all day and not have the same ride twice from what I understand. Have fun!

My friends have told me that ToT is a "must ride" attraction and the Unofficial Guide is also very enthusiastic about ToT. While I would love to see the special effects, I think that I will pass on ToT. I do not like free fall drops and it bothers me that there is nothing to hang on to.

I'm getting anxious just writing this post and thinking about ToT!!

:scared1: TOT scared the living day lights out of me. I found that I don't like the whole free falling thing at all. I tried to scream, but was too afraid to. I was able to laugh about it later that night, but I still had "the shakes" for about 15 mins after the ride was over. My 8 year old DD loves it though. She's obviously tougher than me!

It's scary enough that I won't go near it! :rotfl: The name itself is enough to strike fear in my heart. Give me Rock n Roller Coaster anyday but the thought of dropping over and over is way too much :earseek:

I love it not scary at all!! I just wish they still had the handle bars instead of just seatbelts.

There are handles between the seats to hold on to (if you must, I don't--I love to fly), plus you are seat belted in. I don't care if it's the MGM version or the DCA version--it's the best amusement park ride, period.

 I myself thought it was the best thing since sliced bread (okay, I really don't remember a time bread wasn't sliced) but my DH  FREEKED OUT :scared1: and spent the next 30 minutes in the mens room trying (unsuccessfully I might add) to worship the porcelin gods :worship: . 4 years later, he has begun to work up the courage to do it again...we go in September  This time we'll have my 9yo DstepD with us...I'm positive she's gonna love it ::yes:: I can't wait. We women are much tougher than the men (heehee)

I don't like roller coasters but dh is an elevator mechanic so of course we had to do it. It was fun in a weird sort of way! Okay I didn't really think it was fun until about 2 weeks after our trip. I really wanted to use the chicken exit right before we got on but the kids and dh literally pushed me onto it. If you look at the picture we bought while on it I look like I'm praying for my life! The drops really freaked me but what really got me was when you're at the top and the doors open up and you're looking out over MGM. It's a twisted ride but I think you should do it.
Like I said dh is an elevator mechanic so of course when they were building ToT there was a lot of shop talk about it. It's probably one of the safest elevators you'll ride in!
Have fun!

:cool1: I LOVED IT!!!! Its great fun. You have to try it. And I say its not nearly as scary as it seems. It was great. And I have never been on a roller coaster or "scary" ride like that before. I also loved Rock n Roller Coaster.

It depends on the rider. I despise roller coasters, and I adore ToT. There's people who are roller coaster fanatics, yet hate ToT. It's a very different sensation than a roller coaster drop.

HELP!!!!

My DD(12) told my DS(5) that TOT is just like a FROG HOPPER. This is his favorite ride at the Mall of America. It is a kiddie ride that goes up about 15 feet and bounces down. Now my DS(5) want to go on TOT :sad2: He also wants to go on every ride that he is tall enough for. That is everything except RNRRC. My girls have listed all the big rides with a check off so thier little brother can check off all the BIG rides he does. FYI--he has been on every big ride at the MOA and loves them.

Will he totally freak out on TOT???

DS was 6 first time he rode, along with Space Mntn., and RNRRC and loved them both. One of the must do's. The attention to details in the lobby, the library , the drop, everything is just awesome. Rode it 7x in a row in Jan.

MNmom...since he's been on a ride with a similar sensation I think he might do okay on ToT but how does he feel about being in the dark? When you first start to drop it is pretty dark. But you wooosh back up,then sorta stop and get a quick look at fantastic view! Also sometimes while your going up and down, you kinda stop and ghosts are right in front of you.Would that scare him? Scared the heck out of me the first time I rode after they added them!!! :earseek:

All and all it's really, really FUN!!!

I can ride BTMRR and RnRC without any problem. On a particularly brave day I can even do Splash Mt. When I finally got enough courage to try ToT, I seriously thought I was doing to die right there on the ride. NEVER AGAIN! To date, still haven't worked up the courage to try Space Mt. I think if you can stand the dropping sensation (which I have determined I can not) then you would be fine. But it is truly nothing like a roller coaster. :Pinkbounc

After successfully avoiding ToT a few times, my DGDs insisted that I go on with them this past November. Ok, I did it. Did I like it? NO! I don't like Splash Mt. either. Once on each of those rides was enough - I do NOT like to drop. The anticipation of knowing I'm going to fall is as bad as the ride itself! It's not that I'm a chicken - I love RnR and Space Mt....roller coaster ups and downs don't bother me...it's those sudden drops that I can't take!
