How scary is ToT?

Hello!

I'm thinking extremely far ahead, as our next trip isn't till December. However to pass the time and to try and forget my 2nd home sickness for Disney, I'm researching and planning what we'll do on the next trip already! :lmao:

Anyway, up until very recently (actually it was our last trip in December 2013) I have always been quite a baby with rides, I couldn't even get on POC as I hated it the first time I went on (crazy I know). Anyway since facing my fears and braving poc, I found I love the ride, and do quite enjoy some thrills. I love btm too!

I think the only rides I can't see myself riding for sometime are the truly big thrill rides, such as space mountain and aerosmith. I can do fairly big dips, I just don't awfully love being thrown about upside down, or excessive spinning (this is why I haven't braved crush's coaster yet, but I do of course love a little bit of spinning such as on the teacups and the cars ride).

Anyway, my sister and I are looking to brave tower of terror when we next go. We've watched a few videos online and it doesn't look too bad, just some big drops up and down. But I was just wondering what it actually feels like? I've seen quite young people walking onto it before, which does put my mind at ease a little, but I was still looking for a bit of personal experience. Is it truly awful? Or on the dips, is it just like that feeling when you drive down a very steep bridge but only stronger? I'm hoping we'll brave it as it looks like the kind of thing I'll enjoy once I've been on it, but it's just getting over the first hurdle!

You can probably tell I am quite a wimp with rides at times, definitely overthink them way too much! :rotfl:

So any personal opinions of the ride would be incredibly appreciated :)

I,m a coaster~wimp, btm was my limit until last year. i,ve been on crush once and wont be devastated if i never do it again. i love love love TOT at DLP ~ it scares the bejeesus out of me and i giggle and scream my head off in equal measure!

Do it ~ you wont regret it:)

I have been on every ride in DLP - some of which I would NEVER go on again, such as RC Racer:eek::eek:

But I have not and dont think I ever could go on ToT. I don't mind the loops in big rollercoasters or being upside etc, but that feeling of free falling (to my death so it seems to me) just scares the absolute **** out of me!

Having said that, my DS has been going on it since he turned 7 and LOVES it lol.

ps - I did once go inside ToT (knowing there was a "chicken" exit) because I really want to see the theming inside. The CM's there can obviously smell fear because one of them delighted in keep creeping up on me and scarering me silly lol. And the exit to leave was also right by the lift doors and I was almost a jibbering wreck by this time. I asked the cm about 50 times if she was sure she was sending me to the exit because the door looks just like a lift door lmao.

I RAN down those exit stairs faster then I have ever moved in my life:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

but don't let me put you off:rotfl::rotfl:

Hello!

is it just like that feeling when you drive down a very steep bridge but only stronger?

nope - that feeling isn't there at all, i know it doesn't sound as though that's possible and I can only assume it's because you actually floating above your seat. I was having this discussion with OH the other night, that funny feeling is from your squishy bits moving about, I googled it lol so it must be something do with gravity and science.

It's taken me 5 trips to pluck up the courage to ride it and once we did I couldn't wait to go back on and it'll be the first ride I head for next trip.
You will laugh nervously when you first sit in the elevator, scream like a banshee while you drop and then laugh again at the bottom.

PS I will never ever through choice ride Crush, Space Mountain or Rock n Roller Coaster again and I have no intention of ever trying RC Racer so I'm a bit of a wimp. Incidently you do get that feeling on the parachutes !

"Spoiler Alert" It's one of those rides that I can skip depending on my mood. I saw a TV show on Disney Parks and with ToT you aren't actually falling but being pulled down. The elevators run on hydraulics. It works kind of like your car on a lift at the garage. I have to think of that every time I am on the ride and it makes it much easier for me.

From what you've said, Im not sure you would like it! The first time I went on it I loved it, because of the shock value, and I will try anything. The second and third times, when I knew what was coming I liked it less and less. I also realised that each ride is not exactly the same. The stops and drops are random, so some rides seemed more severe than others.

the drops have always been exactly the same each time i've done ToT at DLP - I count them off as I'm screaming :rotfl:!

ooh it seemed different everytime to me! Im certain you don't always get the same amount of open windows - maybe that's what makes the difference?

The Tower of Terror at Paris, along with the ones at Anaheim and Tokyo always have the same drop sequence. It is only the ToT at WDW that has a random drop sequence, although that is not really random, there are 4 drop sequences available.

As for scare factor, I guess it really depends. It is an intense ride, but many think it is fun. I personally am a huge coaster fan, the fast, higher and more loops the better. But the ToT is not my most favourite ride. I will go on it, but only if I am really persuaded to!! But then I am not a fan of drop towers, I don't like the fast falling sensation.

I guess you can always try it once!!

I LOVE ToT! Been on it by myself a few times too because DH and DD won't go on! I too am aiming on going on every ride at DLP this year (my challenge through the benefit of the annual pass!) - I adore BTM, and it's great, but ToT was the only one that gave me a proper adrenaline rush!!

Try it once, it's unique, and remember - you WON'T die!!! lol Makes me giggle SO much.

On a side note, not yet done RC Racer or Crush (Crush was closed last week, and didn't get an opportunity with RC Racer) yet, but did RnR in December and Space Mountain last week - won 't bother with either of those again. I'm not keen on upside down or corckscrew rollercoasters, but my head banged around SO much it just wasn't even 'sicky fun'!! Shame as the inside of SM is amazing - I just had my eyes closed most of the time trying to stop my head banging around so missed loads.
