How scary is Jaws?

I agree, it's very, very cheesy! I was more worried the entire ride about how wet I'd get because I didn't want to shell out the 8$ for a poncho! My son and I where the only one on the boat without one :scared1: thankfully we where last row before the very back ( I asked to sit there but they wouldn't let anyone sit in the last row :sad2:) I didn't get overly soaked, I was happy about that!

Oh that's interesting, I didn't know that. I figured Bruce was from a kids' movie or something like that. Thanks.

Plus, the name Bruce is also used in a kids movie as a tribute to JAWS...Ever wonder why the shark is named Bruce? Yeah, it's one of the most common names in Australia, but it was a great white shark in Nemo and JAWS.

This thread brings back memories. Several years ago we took out kids on the ride for the first time. My seven year old daughter had ridden lots of rides and never been overly scared. I warned her about the big fake shark, but the second she saw it she started screaming like like banshee! This continued and even intensified with the explosion scene. I was so embarassed and my younger daughter started to cry out of sympathy. It was hard not to laugh, it was so ridiculous. Guess you just never know how they will respond!

Reminds me of the first time my DS rode this ride. He was 4 and I did warn him about the fake shark attacking the boat. We had two rows of teenage girls sitting right in front of us. When the shark appeared they started screaming like crazy. My DS just looked at me and asked " mama, why are those girls screaming at the robot shark?" I laughed and said I didn't know. He said that they were being silly and that it didn't even look real to him. Didn't even phase him a bit! So if you go by my kid's reaction, it really isn't too scary.

I say it's cheesy. :) The woman sitting 2 people over from me kept screaming, "Oh my God! What is it?!" and finally the boat driver looked at her and said, "it's a shark, lady!"

It would probably depend on your kids. We took our 5 yr old son on this one thinking nothing of it. But it did scare him pretty good. I had to keep telling him after that it wasn't real and the shark was like a robot. once in a while he will still ask about it, to make sure we skip it on our next visit.

lol when I was young I got very scared, it did not help when the attendant was joking with me saying better watch out and dont fall off the ledge or they will eat you ha.

We took our 4 yr old on it last year and he was pretty scared- he said he knew it wasn't real, and that it wouldn't get him, but we couldn't convince him to ride it again with us :)

There is a portion of the ride where you are in a dark boathouse and the skipper sets it up to be pretty tense; that is the part that was most scariest for my kids; especially since they don't like the dark to begin with.

I guess, just let your child try and see how it goes- they don't have to ride a second time if they don't want to :) Have fun!!

took my 3.5 & 7.5 year old on it last week. My 3.5 year old was most scared of the fire - that part made her cry for a second. Other than that, they were ok with it. Neither of them would sit on the outside (both sat between me & DH) and they sort of leaned into us when Jaws would pop up, but they didn't have nightmares about it or anything. They both claimed they liked it -- however, neither wanted to go on again, lol.

This was pretty much DD's reaction (she was 7.5). As far as going in the ocean, we live 5 houses away from the ocean and it had no effect whatsoever on DD in that regard. We were back in the ocean right after our return home, so I wouldn't worry about that part. (Unlike the movie!):goodvibes

I think another thing to be afraid of is the horribly cheesy and headache inducing tv clips you have to suffer through if you are in a long line!!!
