How picky are they for height requirements?

My daughter measures just over 37". Will they let her on a 38" ride or are they super picky? I may be able to gain the extra 1" if she wears a hat but….? Just wondering what experiences others had with this. Thanks!

A warning - a few years ago we were in AK and were in line to ride Primeval Whirl. We were not 100% sure dd was tall enough to ride, so we made a point to ask the cast member at the entrance to measure her. The cast member said she was good (after measuring her) so we got in line. 40 minutes later we were at the front of the line and ready to load when the cast member there measured dd and said she didn't make the height requirement. The same thing happened to a family in front of us. That family was arguing and fighting, but still their little girl couldn't ride. I complained because of the difference in message from the cast members. We would not have waited in line if we knew she was too short.

not only are they extremely anal about it, you will NOT be allowed to fudge. no hats permitted. this a safety and insurance issue.

Ok thanks, I will cancel our Kali River Rapids fast pass. I feel bad because she is so close to 38"! She is just super short for her age. Oh well, next time!

It's far more likely that it was a difference in the kids. 40 minutes in line = 40 minutes of getting tired, bored, less hydrated, ready to be DONE. If you think about how you stand when you're tired and bored, I imagine you picture yourself slouching. LIke if you have had a rotten meeting at work, if it's 2pm and you haven't had lunch, you've had an argument with someone you love. YOu aren't standing tall and proud. You're slumped a bit.

Kids do that in lines. It's vital to get just-barely-making-the-height kids to stand straight and TALL, to WANT to hit that bar (literally). Draw themselves up from the back of their necks and be as tall as possible, after waiting in a long line.

This is assuming the CM is not actually pushing down on the child's shoulder, as happened at Disneyland's Star Tours with my son. I wasn't there, just DH, and DH wasn't quick enough to say "stop pushing on him", and DS just slouched down because he thought that's what the CM wanted him to do. DS was only 3 and didn't get that he needed to be tall.

If you are going with another adult, you can use Child Swap to ride the big kid rides.

When you say she is just over 37" - is that barefoot? They do measure kids in their shoes. My daughter measured taller at Disney than she did at home. So, if you're measuring her barefoot, she might just measure up with sneakers on at Disney.
It's probably best to get your FPs for the things your sure of, but go ahead and measure her when she's there ... Tell her you just want to see how short she is, that way she won't be disappointed .... But you ight just be ok and then you might be able to adjust your FPs....

Do they have the bands that you can get at the entrance to show your kid was measured so they don't have to keep measuring them at every ride all day? I've seen those at other theme parks. You usually measure a bit taller in the AM.

No they will measure at each attraction that requires measurements

Agreed.

They EXPERIMENTED with using the measure-once wrist-bands.
But, some parents were slipping the bands off of the taller kid and putting them on the shorter kid.

SO… No-go.

I've read that they tried wrist bands, but taller kids would swap bands with shorter kids.

They measure the children at the start of the line and at the start of the ride by having them stand under a permanent measuring stick. As long as the child hits their head they go on. My daughter kept ducking and I told her to gently hit her head and she can go on. Only the water parks measure without shoes.:fish:

Yeah...super picky (which is good) It was weird that we had a friends son ride Expedition Everest and Tower of Terror, but too short for Primeval whirl

like others have mentioned, most CM's are very picky. Last trip and Sourin, a CM slipped a piece of paper between my son's head and the stick and wouldnt let him on. 15min later after telling him to stand straight he was able to get on test track just barely. You either touch the stick with your head or you don't get on.

it's all in the shoes - but don't be over obvious about it. A 2" lift will probably be noticed.
