I just had to share this with my WISH buddies..

Michael and I started on Atkins January 10th. We returned from Orlando on January 1st. While we were there I noticed how slowly he walked and how quickly he fatigued... :( Kath said she noticed that in him back in May.

Well at last check in he had lost 6 lbs. The weight is NOTHING compared to the ENERGY!

Now on our walks he leaves me in the dust! He climbs hills in a matter of seconds, does the treadmill and the stairclimber at the gym without blinking, and the best part, his COACH is amazed!!
Last week his coach told him if he was able to outrun another student, he could sit out the rest of PE. He not only beat her, he told him he STILL wanted to do the rest of his laps! :earseek: This from my former couch potato kid!

He told me he went from being the slowest kid in his class to the 3rd fastest!

He ran up a hill to the gym today and much to our surprise his PANTS FELL DOWN!! The same sweat pants that he could barely get up last week! Thank goodness he's a boy, he thought it was hysterical!

Quite an update for less than 2 weeks. He had no idea this could do this for him so he's doing it WITHOUT knowing it could happen!

I see the beginning of a wonderful new change in my big boy! :bounce:

Robin that is SOOOOO WONDERFUL!!! Oh, you must be so proud of your boy! I am really glad to hear that he is doing SO WELL and that he has so much more energy--he must feel great! I know an 11 year old boy wouldn't be interested in a hug from a 37 year old woman, but give him one from me anyway!   I am thrilled for you both!:jumping1:

Uh, you OBVIOUSLY don't know my boy! There's is NOTHING he likes more than a {{hug}} from a lady!! It's worth more than anything to him!

Better keep a real close eye on him when he is 16 ;)

That is very good news about your boy.

Do you have a Cassanova on your hands Robin?:) :) :)

The minute I told him about the diet he told me "now the ladies will be all OVER me!"

16? I've been dealing with this womanizer since his eyes cleared up and he realized that there was a difference between men and women!

Robin you tell Micheal we are so proud of him. Maybe we'll see you guys AGAIN this Christmas for a reunion of sorts. We knew each other fat now we can see the healthier side of our families. I am just so proud of both of you. Micheals confidence will just soar you are such a wonderful mom for leading him to a healthier lifestyle. I'm cheering you guys on all the way.

Robin, Michael and you are really great motivators!! ::yes:: Keep up the good work and, please keep us posted on Michael's progress. I feel like I know you both so well from the CB and, now here. ;)

Another lady

Robin that is wonderful news!! I am so happy that Michael likes this way of eating and you both are great inspirations for me! :) Thanks for sharing your posts, I love reading them!! :)

OMG, Robin- Michael sounds like a very entertaining sweetheart!!!

I'm very proud of both of you. You're getting off to a great start, and you've each got your very best friend along for support and encouragement! :sunny:

Robin,
That is so wondreful! I bet you are just so proud of him!!
He is doing fabulous! Both of you are doing fabulous! Keep up the great work!

First off let me give you a big  it is so refreshing to not only see a parent take charge and help her child with teaching them a healthy way to eat and then to also be so unbelievably happy and proud for them! Also give Michael a  from a 24 year old chick! :) I mean my above statement as a complete compliment so I hope you take it as such. I have a friend of mine that just lets there kids eat whatever they want and then wonders why they are sluggish and are picked on at school for being a bit bigger then everyone else.

That is so wonderful! I'm so happy for both of you.

Thanks for all the kind comments, everyone.

I grew up a fat child and I promised myself my child would NOT have that problem. But he DID. I didn't realize why until I started Atkins, though.

I hardly ever fed him meat, he ate nearly 99% carbohydrates! He'd eat macaroni and cheese more than anything, his favorite veggies were carrots, corns and green beans, and he ate LOTS of fruit and drank only 100% fruit juice. That was his dessert.

Of course, according to the Surgeon General, this is fine. His doctor took him off white sugar two years ago so that wasn't a problem. He ate nowhere near as much as his friends yet he was twice their size.

Cutting his carbs by 75% has changed his life. He doesn't have as much problems as most children would because he already knows that limits are a part of life.

Now he reads the labels just like I do, only he has better eyes. He can read the words "corn syrup" on a label from across the room! Anything that someone gives him he asks "How many carbs are in that?"

I think this is a lesson he'll have for life.
:)

{{{HUGS}}} for our Michael. I'm so happy and proud of him. Proud of you too.

You, too, are doing great. It's fun to read about Michael's rapid progress. He's going to be the first "fastest" before he knows it!

Robin, I am so happy for you and so proud of Michael. I grew up a fat kid too and it was no fun. DS is the athletic type (thank goodness) and has never had problems with his weight. I can just imagine how it would have felt for your precious son to enter high school with that extra weight when kids can be so cruel. Good for you in taking charge of not only your health but your son's health too.

Tell Michael we are so proud of him and here's another hug from a 36 year old woman - he deserves it!

Congrats to Michael, and to you Robin ! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Robin that is so Great!! Congratulations to you and Michael!!

How old is Michael? My DD is 9 and she is overweight and we have been watching her carbs but I wasn't sure how far back I could really go with her. Some days she does really good but others she says she is hungry. She still wants ice cream (at least I only have the lo carb ice cream in the house now) and potato chips and I have a hard time getting her to watch her portion size. Another thing that is hard is when she buys hot lunch at school. It is sometimes hard to always control what and how much she eats. How did you get Michael motivated to start? Rachel has been getting on the treadmill a little in the past week and we keep telling her how good that is. Any tips from you having success with your child doing this would be greatly appreciated!

Cheryl

Robin, that is WONDERFUL news!! Congratulations to Michael! As he continues on his journey he will feel better and better. This must be so gratifying to see as a mother. :) I sure wish my parents had helped me with my weight when I was a child. Michael is lucky to have you!
