How on earth do you find a missing salamander?

My h brought us a salamander yesterday. We have an extra tank so that's okay.
But we put it in a bowl with stuff to keep it alive until today and now it's missing. The bowl had a lid on it with holes punched in. I guess the holes were too big.

The dogs aren't sick and their mouths aren't swollen so we don't think they've gotten ahold of it.

We can't find it.

Well, salamanders need water. You may be able to smell it in a few days.

I would look in dark places. Salamanders in the wild are usually under rocks and stuff like that. I always see them scurrying (sp?) under rocks and other hidden places when I walk.

I think one of the dogs ate it. We would have seen it by now.

If not, then we'll find it all dried up somewhere someday.

too bad you don't live in my town-they'd form a committee to help you find it. I think we are the only town that built a tunnel exclusively for salamanders underneath a street so they wouldn't get run over by cars. Eastern Ma. has the Big Dig, Western Ma. has the Salamander Tunnel. Hope you find your salamander!

I would look in dark places.

We used to have a salamander named "Fred". Fred never stayed in his aquarium. We always found him at night when he crawled in bed with one of us. Needless to say, we gave him away!
