I was reading the how old was your child when they got the privilege to text thread....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2289590, and I wanted to say that I was 17y/o when I got my first cell phone and that was only because I had a job and paid the bill on my own.....and I have literally just started texting in the last year ( I am 30)... and thankfully I have the iPhone so I have an unlimited data plan....

So how old were you when you got your first cell phone... I just want to see the age range...

25 and was pregnant with DD now 15. My dad got us all phone for Christmas that year. And it was a bag phone that you could only use in the car. :lmao:

I don't remember, but somewhere around 23. That's not because I waited until I was 23, it's because they didn't exist before then. :lmao: Well, OK, they existed, but they weren't widely used or affordable for most people. They were attached to cars, then, too, and too big to fit in a purse, even if you thought you needed to.

IMO, the comparison for people my age was when I got my own bright blue trimline push-button phone in my own room, and I was 12. :rotfl:

I think I was 24, and it cost me more then, I believe, than it does for my family plan now!

I got one of those sporty bag phones in 1998 at the age of 23 and had a robust 20 minutes per month on the plan that was like $39.99 a month. :rotfl2:

I am 29 and I got my first cell phone when I was 20. I was in college, had a job and paid for my own plan.

31. When my oldest started Kindergarten is when I felt the *need* to have one.

I was a bag phone in 1992! We had like 30 minutes a month for maybe $50! I was dating a guy who had an actual car phone. One phsycally installed in his car! He was cool ;) Looking back, I have no clue how he afforded it!

I got a giant 'flip' phone in like 1996. My dad paid for it and I'm sure I didn't have many minutes. It was a strictly for emergencies thing.

Now, I can't live without my iPhone. I really only started texting a lot 18 months ago when I got the iPhone. I had a Razr before that so texting was annoying w/out a full keyboard.

I love my iPhone but if we ever have to change providers I'll get something like a sidekick.

In my 40s, 4-5 years ago.

I still would probably not have one if it weren't for having kids that need to get hold of me occasionally. I have a pay-as-you-go phone.

I finally got a cell when my oldest dd got a cell in 6th grade, so about 37. DH had one thru work for awhile before me.

14 was my first cell phone that was mine. my mom had one that i could borrow before, but when i was 14 we all switched to a family plan.

I was probably 30 or so. DH had a bag phone through work for a while and got a phone for himself when he left the company. I didn't get one until several years later.

I rarely use mine!

I believe I was about 30 or so, which was about 9 years ago :)

Mine was actually my mom's that I used to call in an emergency when I would drive to/from school. I was 17, and this was back in 2000.

My OWN cell phone, which I purchased, was in 2002.

I'd say around 34 or so (am 42 now). can't imagine life without one now!
