How old were you when you first got contacts?

I was 13 and that was... ummm... ummm 18 years ago... ok I am feeling really old becauseI can remember that trip to the eye dr.

Well, the first pair I got was when I was 16 or 17...they were hard lenses and the "new colored" ones...brown...I hated them! They were uncomfortable and like looking thru amber glass. I ended up with bloodshot spots directly below the pupils...doc said he'd never seen that happen and that was enough for me to wear glasses for the next several years. Then when DS was born I got my first pair of soft lenses (the extended wear ones that last for a year)...haven't stopped wearing contacts since...and wow! That was 14 years ago. I went to the ones you change daily now...love those!

Now, DS just got his first pair on Tuesday...and his first pair of glasses. He's been doing good with the contacts...doc gave him the ones you can wear for 2-4 weeks. He gets frustrated with them when he's rushing, but he's determined to wear them...it's just gonna take some time.

still wear glasses here. I tryed them when I was 18 and 27 and hurt my eyes WAY to much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was 14, and wore them until I was 23 and my eyes were rejecting them. They became very painful, no matter which brand and since I refused to go back to glasses, I got lasik surgery done. :thumbsup2

I was 12 and I kept asking my mom for contacts. She told me I could get them when it was time for me to get new glasses in a couple years. Well that was too long. I looked like a giant dork and I couldn't wait that long. I *accidently* broke my glasses in half one morning. And guess what? I got contacts that day!

32. Up until that time the thought of putting anything close to my eye would make my stomach churn...

14. Freshman in high school.

My folks wouldn't let me get contacts younger than high school, so I went to "great lengths" to avoid getting glasses, including but not limited to memorizing the eye chart while waiting on the doctor. By that time I was unable to read the chalkboard from the front seat, but I wasn't about to wear glasses.

I purchased a pair of glasses on my own sometime in my early 20s. :upsidedow

I was 11 when I got glasses and 15 when I got contacts. They are a wonderful thing aren't they. 10 is young but you know you're daughter best. I would think 13 sounds about right maturity wise. My almost 11 year old is not responsible enough (but thankfully she doesn't even wear glasses yet).
