How old was your child when they reached 40 in?

We have tall genes...all 4 of mine were at or above 40" at 3 years old.

My son was just 40 inches on our last trip, and he was 3 years, 9 months at the time.

We didn't go to Disney for the first time until my daughter was 5, and she's tall so she's never been there under a full height restriction.

This is a chart from the CDC that I use to check my son's height. Boys' heights are on the top of the chart, then scroll down for girls' heights.

One note, this is for American kids. There are other growth charts from other countries.

http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/html_charts/statage.htm

One other note, this is in centimeters. So you'll probably have to do what I do and find a CM to inches converter on Google.

DD3 measured in at 40 in at her 3 year dr appt last week! So relieved that she can ride with her sisters who are 4 and 42 inches.

We are not tall people (I am 5'4'' and my DH is 5'3''). And my DS has always been pretty small.

He was not 40 inches even with shoes when we went to WDW on his 3rd birthday. He was 40 inches when we went a few days after his 4th birthday to DL.

ETA: Looked at annual exams from doctor (all right around his birthday)

3 year old visit: 36.75"
4 year old with different doctor practice so not sure, but like I said, he was able to ride the rides with his regular sneakers on at DL just a few weeks after his birthday
5 year old visit: 42"

My kids are very tall (off the charts).

DS1 was not tall enough at 21 month trip (although he did do the Barnstormer that trip). By the next trip, he was easily tall enough at 2 year 7 month. My kids are ride junkies so we take them on everything as soon as they are tall enough and then let them decide if they like it or not (no You Tube videos, over analyzing, etc). We just ride and if they like it fine, if not, ok. He was 5 yr 2mo when he made the height for RnR and I think we rode it about 20 times that trip.

DS2 is 20 months now. He is 38 inches now, so he is a go for the Barnstormer on our next trip in June at 23 months. I doubt he will grow 2 inches by June but you never know...we are going back in November so I fully expect him to hit by then at 2 years 4 month. He is trending even taller than DS1. If he does hit it, I would love to take him on Test Track and Soarin that trip, but I wouldn't probably do the other 40" rides until November with his age. He shows no fear whatsovever though, so who knows.

Yes, my kids are very tall. But we have the opposite problem in that they can't do a lot of playgrounds and attractions for kids their age because they are past the maximum height (not so much in Disney but other places). So it goes both ways.

My son was 40" on his 4th birthday. He just turned 6 and is now 47.5" (grew about 3.5" each of the two years since). So I would say it's definitely possible yours will grow the 1.5" more to reach 38" within the year.

LOL I've been wondering for a while now if our DS would reach 40" before we go, and he's not 2 for another 6 weeks. Short of stretching him, I don't think I have a chance :D He's 34" at the moment, and we go at the end of July.

I guess DH and I will have to do rider swap on Soarin. Either that or DH will just have to make do without riding it ;)

Wow...kids are tall these days! I had to wait until I was 7 to hit the 40" mark without shoes that had thick soles so I could seem taller! At 19 CMs still think it's funny to measure me to make sure I'll be okay to ride (at 59"). But it really is dependent on how quickly your DS grows specifically to see if he'll be able to make it. Best of luck!

Our DD will be 4 in May as well. We are hoping she will be at 40" in September of this year. We were at patient first 2 weeks ago (DD broke her leg) and they said she was 39" (she wasn't standing properly) so I really think she is at 38" so we will cross our fingers and hope.

DD turn 3 in April and our trip in August she was 41 inches. We are heading back in May 2014 and she is currently at 46 inches. Hoping for 48 inches by then!!

Hmmmm...thank you guys. I'm really hoping he hits a growth spurt within a year b/c I would like to plan a trip for his winter break next year. He would really enjoy it. He has been on medication a couple more times than I would like (prednisone) for his asthma and the doctor told me it could stunt his growth :(
But I have to ask her about his growth curve because like you guys mentioned thats the best predictor and I'm not really sure how to calculate it myself..

My nephew who is 3 months older than my son is 40 inches and rode Soarin already!

My 3rd child also has asthma and has just prednisolone several times also, but she's always been small so I can't say I have noticed a difference.

Anyway, oldest was 40" by 3.75yo. We went in December that year, so 2.5 months before she turned 4yo, and I know she was able to ride all the 40" stuff.

2nd child was just about 4yo. Ride chicken so he couldn't have cared less about it.

3rd child was 39.5" on her 4th birthday, which was in January. Haven't measured her since, but I'm assuming that she'll make 40" by our trip in June. She's more adventurous than her older brother so she'll probably give some rides a try.

We traveled with friends the month my 2nd child turned 3yo and their daughter was the same age (kids are 12 hours apart). She was able to ride all the 40" rides on that trip, while my son wasn't close. So it really totally depends on the kid. My oldest was always 75th percentile for height and now at 10yo she's 95th+ at 5'. My 2nd started out huge, 21" at birth and he was born at 36 weeks! But by 1.5 he was at the 50th percentile and at 7.5yo that is exactly where he is now. And he's a skinny little thing, wears size 5 stuff for the waist, but needs a 6 for length. 7s are out of the question. My 3rd has just always been a peanut, max height percentile has been 44th, but generally she trends around 25th. My last right now is 95th percentile in height but so was his brother at this age so who knows where he'll be at 4.

Interesting! I have hope! Lol! I want to book the flights/hotel in September and I think if he's 39 or 39.5 in by then it's a go!

I'm having a baby in August who will be around 6 months at time of the trip. I love the idea that the trip will be a way for us to get away as a family but also focus on him having tons of fun after new baby's been born. He's obsessed with cars and I know riding radiator springs will be the ultimate-as well as soarin, TOT, and BTMR. Best part is we can do child swap. Hoping the baby will just still be sleeping/eating/looking around. I want to splurge one night on the Disneyland hotel too...(the trip I'm planning for is in Anaheim.) I feel DL will be easier b/c the hotels are literally in walking distance..as well as the parks from one another. So if anyone needs a break it's a bit easier than WDW.

Dl is way easier! Love that we live so close to it now cause it makes trips easier with small kids and 4 kids in general.

We were two weeks shy of DS's 4th birthday the last time we went and he was barely 40 inches.

My oldest was 4.5 when he finally hit 40in. My middle child had just turned 3 when she hit 40 in (Yes, she was very tall, and still is!), and my youngest just turned 4 and she's currently 44 inches.

My ds was 3yrs 4 mo last time we were on Disney and he was just tall enough to ride the 40" rides. My dd was probably around the same age but we didn't make it to Disney while she was 3. She didn't get to ride the 40" rides until she was 4 yrs 2 mo.
