How old to enter the parks alone?

Are there any restrictions for kids entering the parks on their own? We've never been to Universal before and are debating onsite or offsite. Bigger than the perk of Express Pass, to me, would be the ability to send my oldest back to the room mid-day or have him join us later in the day if he gets in one of his moods (teenager, you know). I wouldn't think they would have any rules, but I just googled it and learned Disney has/had a rule that kids must appear to be 14. Just wondering if Universal feels the same?

I went to Universal all the time when I was 14 with just a friend, with no parents even on property. We were never questioned. Granted, that was a while ago, but I'm sure the rules wouldn't be any different now.

During our last trip the boys were 12 and almost 14. They went back and forth without any issues.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like we should be okay then; just have to keep the ride restrictions in mind then.
