How old is your fake Christmas tree?

We've had the same "unreal" Christmas tree for 4 years now. We spray it to try and keep it clean. We keep it in an air type tub out in our garage but this year I notice is has a very musty odor.

Do you buy a new fake tree every couple of years or HOW do you keep it smelling "fresh"?

We put ours away in the box in the basement every year. It's been through 2 or 3 floods (although off of the ground so no damage) and still no musty odor. Don't know what we're doing right--bought the thing in 1987!

We've had ours for almost 25 years. It comes apart and stores in a box. We've never had any kind of smell from it. There's a lot of tradition to our tree since we got it the first Christmas we were married. We talk about getting a newer, bigger one (this one is only 6'), but DD loves its history.

what do you spray it with? Could that be what is giving you the musty smell? We keep ours in the attic and have never noticed a smell. This one is only 2 years old, but we have used other for more than 10 years.

We just replaced our old tree with a new pre-lit one. Our old one was 15 years old! I never sprayed it or anything. It never smelled musty as we kept it in the garage attic. It still looked beautiful but took hours to set it up and was a real pain. I can't say enough about my new pre-lit one! It was up and lit in under 10 minutes!

We put ours in a box in the basement. We had that same artificial one for almost 15 years. Just last year we got a prelit one. We never had a musty smell.

One is about 7 or 8 years old, the other two are new last year.

Ours was about 12yrs old and the branches were getting droopy so we bit the bullet this year and got a nice new tall, thin prelit tree. It's beautiful.

Our tree is 9 or 10 years old. I miss having a real tree but I love being able to put the fake one up the day after Thanksgiving. We don't have any problems with the musty smell and the tree is still in great shape and very real looking. I use the Yankee Candle Mistletoe plug in and it smells like we have a real tree in the house.

Our current tree is only on its second Christmas but before this I had the old tree my parents bought around 1980 and it never had a problem with a musty smell.

Up til about 5 years ago, we used a tree that my parents had got back in 1981!! It was a "nice" tree at the time and it was still in good shape. It never had any odors or anything. We got real trees for the last 5 years, simply because the kids wanted to go out and cut one down. This year, having the dog, I didn't want to take any chances and have some additional "presents" show up under the tree!! (don't know if that would happen but not willing to take any chances ). We just got a new artificial tree about a month ago. They really make them a lot easier to assemble than they used to! :jumping4:

Ours is several years old - and still looks great, so we will keep it as long as it looks like a tree

Ours is about 2 weeks old.
Our old one was about 4 years old. A few of the branches were broken, so we got a new one this year.

We got ours right before Christmas 2002, so this is year #3 with it. We store ours in the cardboard box it came in, and put that down in our basement storage area. We don't do anything to keep it "fresh", and it doesn't have any odor. The key is to not let moisture build up, that's what causes odors. I would advise you to store it in cardboard, not plastic. Plastic holds in moisture, while cardboard can "breathe".

Mine is now 10 years old. We take it apart every year and store it in it's original cardboard box down in the basement. It was a little dusty this year, but no smell.

Our tree is 2 years old. We also keep it ther box it came in. I like that it comes in 3 parts, very easy to set up and adj the bratches. Our previous tree was 11 years old. It was set up branch by branch. Big pain in the neck.

I believe we bought ours in 1984 or '85. I'd love to get one of the newer kinds that are pre-lit but ours still looks really nice decorated. Putting the lights on and taking them off is always a pain though.

We got ours on clearance after Christmas in 2002. We paid $10 for it and it has lights already on the tree. I prefer real Christmas trees (and the scent), but for convenience, and since the kids didn't want to partake in cutting down a tree anymore, we opted for the fake tree for now.
