How old for bunk beds?

We're thinking of a November 07 trip and I like the idea of AKL with bunk beds. My kids will be 4 (DS) and 2 (DD). Will DS be able to sleep on the top bunk of the bunk beds?

Our bunk bed warning label says not for kids under 6 years old. That being said, my DD4 sleeps in the bottom bunk while her sister (who is 8) sleeps in the top. I would not feel comfortable with DD4 being in the top bunk, but that is because she has a habit of getting up in the night to use the bathroom or to come see me if she has a bad dream. She also typically sleeps with her feet hanging off the side of the bed (there are rails on the top bunk, though). She also tends to be restless on vacation, so that would worry me as well. Not to say it wouldn't work for you, but it wouldn't work for us if DD4 had to be in the top bunk. She is allowed to climb up there and play in the daytime, but I don't want her trying to negotiate the ladder in the dark while she is sleepy.

My younger children did just find in the AKL bunks at ages 2 1/2 (dd) and 4 (ds). In fact, they took turns sleeping in the top bunk. No problems whatsoever.

hmm good question...my twins will be 4i in nov and i too was contemplating bunk beds..but now i dont know:confused3

When we bought bunk beds for my son's room the instructions stated that the child should be 6 to sleep on the top bunk. We did stay at the nick hotel which has bunk beds when he was 5 and he slept on the top bunk and was fine. I think it is really up to your discretion: I think you are going to get a wide array of opinions.

We have bunk beds at home for my 4 and 5 year old. They have been in them for about a year with no problems. In the beginning she used to call out to me when she had to go potty, but I solved that by buying her a brighter nightlite so she can see to get up.

Hi,
When we bought bunk beds, they all had warnings which clearly stated that children under 6 should not sleep on the top bunk. That said, I don't know if Disney allows it or not. Anyway, only you would know how your child might react if they wake in the night and if they would be able to safely navigate their way down if you were sleeping. Enjoy your trip!

we stayed this past new years eve at another orlando establishment that has Suites with themed bunk bed rooms..mine were 7 and 6 at the time...they love it..no worries about the bunks for the 3 days they were on them before we moved to WDW.....

Yikes, I was afraid I was going to get different opinions! I'm pretty sure there won't be an issue at night as he is a heavy sleeper. He loves to play on the top bunk at his friend's house. DD will be just over 2 and I'm pretty sure she will still be in her crib at home but those pack n plays will be too small. We haven't made any decisions yet about our trip, just that we're going! We loved going in May 2 years ago but DD (was pg with her at the time) has extrememly sensitive skin and eczema and gets heat rash as soon as it gets hot so I think a cooler month would be better.

DD4 has bunk beds in her room, but she knows she's not allowed to sleep on the top bunk until she's six. While I think she'd do ok sleeping on top, I don't think she'd fair too well if she had to climb down in the middle of the night (to use the bathroom, or if she got sick or had a bad dream). She's not too smooth on the transition from bed to ladder.
