Inspired by some people who are getting nervous over the posts regarding room cleanliness at check-in, this poll is asking about your typical experience when checking in.

In other words, roughly what percent of the time have you found the DVC accommodation to be unclean at the time you checked in?

I don't mean the faucet didn't work, or the door stuck, or that kind of stuff. I mean the things that have been reported here recently...waste cans full, sludge on countertops, grimy bathrooms, etc.

We've only made two trips, but both times the rooms were immaculate!

Edit to add on 12/5/03: This poll was originally started in December 2002. It has been brought back a year later due to the very same issues that brought it about in the first place.

Since that time, we had another trip and no problems with the 2BR unit we stayed in at VWL.

Feel free to add votes/comments....thanks.

thanks for the poll. Most peolpe wouldn't post just to say their room is clean....so it may look like a lot of dirty room comments to those who are looking at the recent posts...this will help to get a true feel for total cleanliness.

twinglefam....my original thought was exactly what you described...most people don't post to comment on something that should be a given...clean room on check-in.

Others should feel free to add comments as well. If you've noticed worse conditions recently, add that to the comments. If you want to provide any details of dirtiness...feel free.

The goal is not to prove anything with this poll. It is just to solicit input on members' experiences.

Thanks.

Well, I have only made two DVC trips (1 VB & 1 VWL). Of course, with just a few trips, the percentages will change drastically with one trip.
Our beach cottage at VB was absolutely immaculate, but unfortunately, our 2br at VWL was unacceptable. I deeply regret having to say that, as VWL is absolutely my favorite resort.

The carpet was unvacuumed, some wall areas near the kitchen had stuck food on them, there were crumbs in the couch cushions, there were crumbs in the toaster, and there was a yellow stain on the bottom side of the bed spread.

My wife called housekeeping, and the head honcho came up for a look. As she was talking with us, my wife stepped on a half eaten chocolate bar that was left on the floor. Housekeeping tried to move us, but there were no more 2brs. They re-cleaned our villa the next day, including a carpet shampoo.

We also scheduled two additional full cleanings during our stay. They were marginal at best, as many things were over looked.

Even though we had a bad experience, I would bet that this was the exception, and not the norm. If we should have another bad experience, I will once again bring it to housekeepings attention....and this time DVC's attention as well.

The worst part was that we had my in-laws with us, and this fiasco proved somewhat embarrassing after talking up DVC to my in-laws.

I really wish I did not have this bad story to tell. :(

Well, I voted 1-10% but I probably should have voted 0%. We have only had trouble one time in many stays. But I guess that I wouldn't really call the room dirty. It was a couple years ago at BWV. When we checked in there were sticky rings on the kitchen counter and the coffee table. And the bathroom floor had quite a few scuff marks. I probably should have called housekeeping, but I just cleaned them myself. I don't think that I would have called the place dirty, just a couple things missed by housekeeping.

In 4 studio stays I've never encountered a room that was unacceptable.

Trash & Tidy is another story but not the subject matter of this thread.

Never for me doesn't mean it cant happen. Disney has thousands of rooms. And based on the frequency I haven't been able to get into my room they must be rushing to get the cleaning jobs done. That doesn't mean they are doing an inadequate job...just that when you are cleaning at top speed something is bound to missed from time to time...especially if you get a room that people haven't done squat to before they left.

Odds favor getting a spotless room.

So glad to see that many others have had the same experiences that we have with always getting clean rooms! I was beginning to worry a little!

Out of 12 DVC trips, I've only had one bad experience. Upon checking into the BWV in 2000, at 3am due to flight delays, we found dirty countertops, a sticky kitchen floor, hair in the bathroom and wine stuck to the bottom of the wine glasses. Ewww.

I called housekeeping first thing in the morning and they apologized and said they'd send someone up. I called again later in the day - another apology, another promise.

By the next day, I wasn't too happy. I found a woman in the corridor who looked official - beeper, telephone, suit - so I asked her who I should contact with a complaint. She said, "Me!" It just happened she was the housekeeping manager. Within an hour, I had all our problems taken care of, and she also gave us free daily housekeeping for the remainder of the trip.

I never expect a trip to be perfect, but I'm always happy with how Disney takes care of those imperfections. :)

Our first trip was three weeks ago at VWL in a 1 Bdr and we are 1-0 for a clean room. The room was very clean.:D

Have been a member since 94 and have never had a problem with a dirty room at check-in.:D Did have ants in a room once (and the room was EXACTLY where we wanted). Housekeeping said they would send over pest control people immediately, but we opted to move since we had a 4 year old and a 1 year old at the time and did not want them to spray pesticides in the room while we were there.

We've stayed at BWV 3 times and BCV once and have never had a dirty room. Everything has always been spotless.

Out of about 10 or so stays, we have never had a less than emaculate room. always spotless.

We have stayed at OKW,HH and VB and haven't ever been dissappointed yet.:D

Thanks, Granny, for posting this poll.

It puts things in a much more realistic perspective. Our experience (2 trips so far, one in 2000 and one in 2002) has been 100% clean.

I didn't read it well. Posted that it had been dirty 60-90% of the time. Meant it to be the other way around. Although I don't post much I wanted to respond to this. This past summer we had a 2 bedroom unit and an additional studio. My niece was staying in the studio. We checked in very early in the morning, probably around 8:00 a.m. before heading out for the day. We didn't arrive back at VWL until around 9:00 p.m. When we got to the studio the beds had not been made or anything else done to the room. We called housekeeping and they proceeded to tell us since we were there on points we didn't get daily housekeeping. After informing them that we had only just gotten to the room from our check in they sent 2 peolple right up. The front desk manager called my room (the 2bed) and appologized profusely. She offered e-night tickets for our entire party not just the people in the studio. She did everything she could to make it up to us. Housekeeping even cleaned the room for them 2 more times in 5 days. They do take care of things when given the chance.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to take this poll. And to those who took the extra time to post some comments.

So far (107 votes) over 90% of the time, we have been finding clean rooms upon arrival at our villas.

I thought (and hoped) this was the case. It should help put newcomers minds at ease about the cleanliness of the DVC resorts.

Bill & Deb....I'm with you...that bottle of JD is a bonus! ;)

And for those who haven't voted or posted...please do so and share your comments, good or bad.

And double_trouble...thanks for noting that this is not about housekeeping service after one arrives (trash & towels or full cleaning)...that indeed would be another, different poll.

Keep 'em coming folks!

Granny, I am also pleased with the outcome of the poll so far. It confirms my belief that my experience was the exception, and not the rule. I wonder if the same housekeeper always cleans the same rooms, or if they rotate around? I would request a different area of VWL to get a new housekeeper. I truly believe that I just had one of the few sub-par housekeepers, and the vast majority do a fantastic job. I hope my earlier post is taken in that spirit, and does not frighten off prospective members.

We haven't been too much yet either, but the last trip everything was fine except I don't believe mousekeeping was ever introduced to the vaccume. Everything else was fine, but the carpets were a mess; we quickly remedied that ourselves, but I think next time I might say something. I can relax when it is just our family, but when we bring guests the last thing I'd like them to see is a filthy floor as a first impression:eek: !

Thanks again to all who voted on this poll. The results, based on 142 responses thus far, have been very positive towards the "walk in" experience.

Again, the main reason was it seemed that we were getting some concerns being raised about room condition upon check-in.

It still sounds like the housekeeping could use some work for the cleaning and trash & towel days, but that's another poll.

Personally, I think it's important to bring forward the negative experiences one has at DVC as well as the good ones. It all helps round our opinions of this great vacation investment.
