When my boys were in elementary school (K thru 3rd) they had Gym twice a week.

In Middle school (4 thru 8) they had Gym every other day.

In HS, my Freshmen is taking Gym every day but just this semster and my Senior is "all done" with all the Phys Ed classes offered at our school so he has no gym.

Just wondering.....

High School Junior

Everyday, All four years except one half of sophmore year can be substituted for health. PE is required in IL.

Elementary school -- once a week. It should be more often.

my elementary kids have it only once a week, I think it shoud be every day.

My dd, 6th grader, never has gym. She takes band and band students don't get to have gym. My ds, 3rd grader, has it twice a week. He says PE is his favorite subject.:teeth:

At our HS it is by semester., 5 days a week.

My DS had Drivers Ed the first semester and has phys ed every day for the second semester.

Every other day for the twins in 4th grade. The middle school is on a block schedule so they have it every day for a quarter and then off a quarter and then back on for another quarter. The high school is the same, but PE is only required through 10th grade. My kids are in after school sports and are generally pretty active so I wouldn't be at all upset to see them do away with PE and offer something else, foreign language (elementary anyway) or more options for music maybe, but I know that isn't the case for everyone. DS 1's PE teacher is really good and they actually do something active in PE. The twins PE teacher has them play game all class and the kids spend more time standing in line then running around.

My DD's school is just K5-2nd grade. All 3 grades have PE 3 days a week, and the other 2 days, they have Art and Music - but on those days, they get to go to the playground for free play. So, they're outside everyday.

I don't remember how often they had it in elementary or middle school, but in HS, it's 4 days a week (1 day is for your science lab - if you don't have lab, you have gym 5 days a week). Health is rotated into the gym schedule. PE is a state requirement here, I believe.

I was so happy to end PE after the worst year and a half know to man in HS.I was praying for hay fever to escape it

My son that is in 2nd grade has it 3X a week and my son that is in middle school has it daily, first thing in the morning and wishes it were later in the day!

Elementary School---twice a week

We also have parent staffed recess during the Fall/Spring. The kids get 15 minutes outside on the playground once they are finished with their lunch. It is dependant on good weather and having enough volunteers. Usually they get outside 4 days a week for recess. Plus their teachers take them out now and then.

One day each week in elementary school. Older DD is in second year of middle school and hasn't had PE yet. She is a competitive gymnast, so she gets plenty of exercise outside of school.

my elementary kids have it 3x a day.

My middle school (where I work), has students doing a rotation of PE/Health-Special Subjects .

Its a complicated formula, but it basically is 3x a week for middle school. (Sometimes 5, sometimes 2, but most of the time its 3).

My DD14, a HS Freshman, had phys. ed. every other day for the first semester this year. The last day of gym was a VERY happy day for her because she HATED it. Her school requires two semesters, (one credit), of phys. ed., but dance can be substituted for one of the semesters. She is very involved in dance, so that won't be a problem!

bball.. In NJ gym is required for all grades by law. It is so enshrined in law that if a district has to make subject cuts to meet budget the only course that CANNOT be cut is Phys. Ed. Crazy..no English is OK but must have gym. In HS it is 5 days a week with 1 marking period per year for Health Ed.
