How often do you stay on-site at DLR?

I am thinking of booking PP, how do you transport into Disneyland?Monorail or by foot...tram?

You can do foot all the way, or walk till you hit the monorail in DTD. There isn't a tram I know of.


I have never lived more then an 1 1/2 hours from DLR in my whole life. In fact I have only done a two park over night visit to the parks once in my whole life. But due to activities and things I have stayed in Anaheim about 10 times in my whole life, with those always connected to at least a one day visit in the parks.

This past Nov, we got a Dream come true with an invitation to Club 33, I saw the AP rates for DLH and talked DH into making it a double dream come true day. So we booked and stayed at the hotel. I loved it, it was amazing I would love to do it again, but I am sure it will be a long time in the future before me splurge on this again. Especially since the next dream is GCH!!!

The best thing besides all the things mentioned, was deciding to drop stuff off that night before going back to the parks and realising that the fireworks had started! We turned on the fireworks channel and enjoyed them from our balcony, it was amazing!!!

NO clue if this will help you because it really addresses the enjoyment factor, not the vacation factor, but...

We live less than 1 hour from Disneyland. A few years ago DH and I got to talking about the newer hotels at DLR and how we know nothing about that since we live locally and don't need them. We both thought the GCH would be the type of place we would enjoy staying at, however, if we were to come here on vacation.

Shortly after that discussion, DH decided to do something others might find silly. He told me to prepare for a fun, casual day and to pack an overnight bag. (He never does stuff like that, so I was beyond curious!)

Well, we went to DL (with our APs) for the afternoon, had dinner at the Blue Bayou and at the end of the night checked in to the GCH for the night. After I got over the, "Why are we paying for a hotel so cluse to home?" issue, we REALLY enjoyed the hotel. The atmosphere was comfortable, the hotel was really pretty and relaxing. The service was wonderful. For us, it was "worth it" even just for a 1 night local getaway when home was truly just a short drive away.

We live about an hour away in Encino, and so far we have stayed twice off property at the Sheraton and once at Paradise Pier and once at Disneyland hotel, this past weekend. I will not be going back to that one by the way, and I have a reservation for GC in February.

About 6 years ago we stayed at the Portofino Hotel. The staff was great -then the following year we had APs, so we staed on site --after that we have always staed on site, for all the reason everyone else has posted! Before DLR started offering to let you pay over the phone, I would start to pay for my vacation about 8 months in advance-so by the time I got there-the vacation was paid for. I include the price of my morning coffee, and 2 character breakfast, we have a group of 5-so you know what that can add up to. If I didnt do it this way, it would be hard for me to stay on site. I just love it though-its All Magic !

If I was an AP SoCal res, I would most DEFINITELY stay onsite. Save on the tickets. Save on the plane. Enough money for a magical stay on site.

Other than that, which is the best? DLH, PP, or GC?

I love staying onsite. Before GCH, I stayed at the DLH. Now, it's all about GCH for me! Love that place! We don't get down to DLR as often as I'd like, so when we DO get to go, I usually persuade DH to shell out the big bucks for the place I like. I just like walking out the door and right onto the pavement at DTD. DL is just up the walk! Usually we start at DCA, which is attached to the the GCH. It's fun and the line is never long. After that, it's a handstamp and a short jaunt to DL! I can pretend that nothing outside the resort exists for me when we stay onsite and I like that!

I have stayed overnite offsite on my own a time or two and really liked the Anabella (is that right?) Anabelle...something like that. Really close to the resorts and very comfortable. My pals and I stayed at the Candy Cane Inn and liked that one a lot too! DLR is so compact that there really is no wrong answer! Enjoy your trip!
