How often do flight schedules change?

We have a direct flight out of New Orleans on Delta for a time that is absolutely perfect for us.

I'd like to make some plans for when we arrive. What are the odds that the flight time will be changed? Is there a time frame when I should be on the lookout changes? Or do most flights (barring weather or mechanical delays) stick to their departure schedule?

We've flown Delta twice and the schedule didn't change either time, but we were delayed 1 hr getting off the ground going to ATL due to mechanical problems and had to rush to make our connection. We've used USAir many more times and there has been a schedule change every time. I do tend to book from 3 to 6 months in advance so if you're closer to your date than that there will be less chance of a change.
