I am trying to help out a friend that has DVC. They have a collection of points across 2 resorts, not that that matters. The issue is that they messed up on their banking. They have September points and out of their 400 points, they have only banked 200!They were not planning to use any more this year, but thought the rules said that by the end of Feb they could bank up to 100%, and by the end of May they could bank up to 50%. Based on that, they banked 50% by the end of Feb, with 50% still outstanding. They figured since they could bank the other 50% up till the end of May, they could bank the remaining that and all would be ok and accounted for.

As you can figure out, they were confused on the banking issue and are now stuck. I sort of remember that there was a one time deal where DVC would take pity and relax the rules and help them out. Is that written anywhere? I can't find it. Is this one-time deal really true?

All help appreciated....

You are right, according to the rules, they can no longer bank any more points. The best they could do is TRY to get the one time banking snafu priveledge, but don't count on it. I guess I would have them call their guide and see if he/she could intervene on their behalf since they seemed to misunderstand the rule.

I'm not much help, but thank you for pointing this out. I didn't realize the rule worked that way either. Just looked it up in the 2005-2006 guidebook though:

Banking percentages are based on the cumulative number of Vacation Points banked as of the banking deadline.

Good to know, and I hope your friend can work something out.

Rent them out. Then next year if they need more points they can buy some.

I agree with Ken. Why use up a 1 time exception. Save it for a bigger emergency.

Rent the points out this year and put the money in the bank.. Use it to go on a different vacation or rent points from someone when you need them next year. You should break even.

I'd use the one time exception for 200 points. But they certainly could rent them out if they wanted.
