Well, posted a few weeks back and said that husband had agreed that we could spend my 40th birthday in florida. Once that was agreed we kind of planned to spend a week in the keys and miami and the second week in a villa in kissimmee.

Spent a frantic few weeks and have now booked flights, villa, insurance, car etc etc etc.

But we totally didnt realise (but very aware now!!!) that there is a public holiday on the weekend we arrive (we fly on friday the 13th!) and couldnt find anything reasonable at all where we wanted to be in the first week. So, ended up booking a villa in Indian Creek for both weeks, which I beleive is somewhere near kissimmee. Has anyone stayed there and how near is it to anything/everything?

The Indian Creek Community, is just 3 miles from the entrance to the Walt Disney World Resort, off Highway 192. It is situated 15 minutes from International Drive and 25 minutes from Orlando International Airport. An extensive range of local facilities including supermarkets (Super Walmart), a variety of other shops and restaurants are less than 5 minutes drive away.
The Indian Creek Community offers a recreation area comprising a putting green, tennis court, five-a-side soccer pitch, multipurpose court and two children's play areas.

Hope this is of use, you will have to let me know what its like there, we shall be staying there in early 2005.

Yep, sorry the Walmart is near Indian Point not Creek ( i got my indian's mixed up).

Indian Creek is THE perfect location as far as I'm concerned. We've stayed at Indian Point, Wellington (off Hwy 27) and Lindfields previously and have every intention of staying in Indian Creek (or the neighbouring locations of Rolling Hills or Formosa Gardens) next time.

It's no more than 10 minutes from World Drive in traffic and gives easy access to the I4 and Universal.

It's a couple of minutes from the Hwy 192 (right behind Splendid China) down Formosa Gardens Boulevard. At the junction of Formosa Gdns Boulevard and the Hwy 192 there is a small shopping area, with a supermarket, and another 2 or 3 minutes down the Hwy 192 east there is a Publix supermarket selling everything you want (except liquor, and there's a liquor store right next door if that's your thing).

Walmart, however, is nowhere near here. It's about 20 mins down the Hwy 192 west. If you have an Asda Walmart near you it's much the same thing.

Didn't see (or look for) the community amenities. We had a lovely villa with a screened, fenced pool so no need to search them out. The villas are new - they were still building last October.

www.orlando-maps.info gives good maps and driving directions.

Mike Jones stayed here over Christmas and I think he'll agree that it is a brilliant location. I'm sure you won't regret it. Have a fantastic time!

Along with Formosa Gardens, Indian Creek is just about the closest rental community to WDW property. Drive the half a mile or so along Formosa Gardens Boulevard to the US192 and take a right. At the next set of lights, turn left onto Sherberth Road and follow it until you hit the next set of lights. You are now on WDW property. Turn left for Animal Kingdom Lodge, right for any other destination, and follow the signs.

To retrace your steps, follow the signs for Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Just before the turnstiles for AK, take the left fork signposted AKL and then turn left at the lights. You're now back on the Sherberth Road.

The road you hit as you exit Sherberth Road onto WDW property is the Osceola Parkway. It runs more or less parallel with the 192 and is a good alternative when the 192 is busy. As it leaves WDW property heading east just beyond Gaylord Palms, it becomes a toll road, although the tolls are not too bad.

edie w - you've got your easts and wests muddled up. Publix is west and Walmart is east. :) Still, you're in good company. Simon Veness has got it wrong in the 2004 version of 'A Brit's Guide'.

Come to think of it, maybe it's me...

Oops, no Deb it's definitely me! Can't tell my right from my left either. Something to do with being ambidextrous I'm told. Just look at the map - that makes it easy!

Ditto all above. It's a very good location. Have a look at our trip report for distances/times etc to the various parks.

Good choice!
