How much would you pay for Girl's Gymboree, Lands' End and Hanna Andersson clothing at a garage sale? :confused3
I have tons of long sleeved t-shirts from Gymboree in bigger girls sizes in excellent used condition, only 1 or 2 years old at the most, and I'm trying to determine how to price them. I also have brand new Talbot's Kids outfits--sweater and skirt set, and hoodie cable knit cardigan.

It really depends on what part of the country you live in. Here, in NC, it is doubtful that anyone would pay more than $2.00 for a whole outfit, $1.00 for a shirt. In other areas a name brand Hanna A dress would sell for $10 easily. Good luck.

I'm thinking $3 for long sleeved shirts--Gymboree, Lands' End, Hanna A.
$3 for same brand pants
$1-$2 for tanks, shorts and capris and Disney t-shirts
50 cents for middle-of-the-road brands and stuff showing a little wear
I have some special dresses and stuff with the tags still on that I'm asking a little more for-- $4-$7.
I don't know if people are going to buy, or look at me like I'm nuts! I do know that my prices are coming in lower than the consignment shops around here. I would pay $3 for a like-new Gymboree shirt, but I know what they cost in the stores! Either way, I guess I'll have my answer at the end of this weekend!
Thanks! ;)

Personally...I would put all of the Gymboree together in a lot and sell it on eBay. You'll get a LOT more selling that particular line that way.

Your pricing sounds very fair, good luck with your garage sale!!

I think that you have to consider what is in season. Maybe $3 for long sleeves in Sept. but in July I'd say $2 if yor're lucky.

I think people are use to really cheap prices at garage sales and not willing to pay more than $1 or $2 per peice. Might want to consider listing them on Craigslist. I would pay more b/c I LOVE Gymboree but alot of people don't see the value in Gymboree.

Lands End you could charge a little more since it has a life time gaurentee, if any thing is wrong or happens to it they will replace it at no charge.

I buy a lot of used Gymbo.

In like new condition, I'll pay up to 10% of the original price. I bought several cotton tops for the baby for $2.50-3.00 that were originally $28.00 (and I am sure the person got them on sale). I know the price because I wanted it new lol

I'll go higher for denim, up to $5 depending on how cute it is. I don't like paying more than $1 for knit pieces. I am always able to pick up new knit items for $6 or so in the store. But jeans and cotton pieces always get snatched up before I get there!

I would personally pay $6-7 for the hoodie cardigan if it was cuter than something I could pick up at Ross. We use Ross as the price gauge for everything here it seems lol

I agree with the prices people have advised here. Folks at yard sales are looking for rock-bottom prices. eBay may be better, and I used to take my kids stuff to a consignment store. They'd sell high quality, gently used shirts for $6 0r $7 and I'd get half - much more than a yard sale and much less work! I never could figure out why folks would pay that much when you could get the same thing new at end-of-season clearance sales for the same price, but, hey, I was willing to take the $$! Sometimes I'd buy stuff on clearance and make money back selling it on consignment.

Ebay is best bet. Garage sales here in North Texas bring out the cheapest of the cheap. At my last one I had people trying to talk me down to $1.00 for designer (Ralph Lauren, Hanna, Gymboree, Lands End ect) complete outfits pants, shirt , sweater! I also had new in the box Stride Ride shoes that they wanted for a quarter! Then they pay with a $100!

I really think you'll need to know what your area is like to for this. In our area-- you'll be lucky to get $1.00 an item- no matter the brand or tags or not. Clothing just does not sell well around here.....no matter what. Consignment shops don't stay in business either- so maybe it's all tied together- who knows.

As I'm reading this I'm staring at a stack of my kids' boutique clothing, from this fall, that I'm getting ready to put in a bi-annual consignment sale. You have no idea how addicting these sales are. Check online if you have any in your area coming up (prob in Aug/Sept) for fall/winter. You name your price (generally 75% off retail), tag it, hang it and drop it off. Consigners get in earlier than general public (usually night before public sale) and if you volunteer you get in even earlier (and really get the good stuff!). It's just so much fun getting there early, leaving the kids with hubby and chatting with fellow moms about how excited you are about all the great high end stuff you're going to find or that hot wheel you spotted at drop-off (when you drop your stuff of inside) for $25.

Spring/Summer sale I spent $350 on all my kids summer clothes (well most) - Zaza, Baby Lulu, Gap, and lots of other nice clothes...I snagged 3 pair of Lelli Kelly's for $5 apiece! And I made +$400 so essentially got their things for free and then some.

As a rule of thumb, yard sale items go for about 10% their original cost. Add a little more if the items are genuinely new (as in, tags still on). Deduct a little if there's excessive wear. If the items in question are stained or have holes, put them in a "free box". In my area, nothing sells for more than $2-3 at a yard sale; if you price things too high, they just get pawed through, and then you have to move them back inside.

I agree that you'll sell them for more on ebay. Of course, then you have to pay the ebay fees (not all that expensive) and you have to go to the trouble of listing them and then mailing them.

so very true for NC!

I just wanted to point out that I have given up having yard sales. I just donate to Good Will or Salvation Army because I can claim the amount that the item sells for in the store. Yes, I don't get the cash instantly, but I can claim $2.25 for each child shirt instead of getting 50 cents from a yard sale.

Thanks! ;)

I had a garage sale a few weeks ago, charged similar prices and did very well. I had quite a few people buy 7-8 pieces of clothing at a time with no haggling. I did give people who bought that much a price break anyways. :) I was selling mostly my son's clothes - Gap, Gymbo, Ralph Lauren, TCP, Target - but I had the same success last year with my daughter's clothes.

I think the most important thing is to have everything neat and organized and keep it that way throughout the day. I tagged all my clothes with the price and size and had them folded up and laid out on tables according to size and type. I can't tell you how many people commented how nice everything looked and how they wished they had a son in that size.

I'm sure I could have sold everything for more on Ebay, but between Ebay fees, PayPal fees, shipping and the time involved in photographing and describing everything it just didn't seem worth it to me. :)

I had a yard sale with mainly Gymboree earlier this summer. People seemed to be scavenging for the stuff, it was all gone in less than 2 hours. :lmao: I sold any 3-piece outfits for $5, 2-piece outfits for $3, and separates for $2. It was much faster and easier than selling on ebay, wasting time packaging/mailing everything, keeping my fingers crossed some crazy didn't buy the clothes and found a shadow of a speck of what used to be a spot and now wants all her $ back, etc. When the yard sale was over, everything that was left I bagged and donated. Clutter gone, cash in hand to buy more!:rotfl2:
