How much would you or have you spent on a prom dress?

Dresses are SO much less elaborate and cheaper than when I was in school!

I bought two, in 1993 and 1994, when full length beaded silk was in style, with dyed shoes to match.

The first one was black with black bead and gold beading and was $379, and the next year my mom and I fell in love with a peacock blue dress with silver and periwinkle and lavender beading. That dress was $560! Thank god my dad was clueless. Of course, I wore it to two proms, in a beauty pageant, and in my high school's coronation of Mr. and Mrs. WHS. I think I deserved that dress. I had "blossomed" that year...gotten the braces off, got contacts, filled out a little. I felt and looked like a million bucks.

It's still in my mom's bureau, wrapped in tissue.

When I started college and was in sorority, I needed at least two gowns per year, and never paid over $100 for any of them. I wish simpler dresses would have been in style before then!! My favorite was a gold halter dress that cost $22 on a clearance rack. Very Greek goddess-like.

Well, here we are still with no dress and 4 weeks to go! No luck on ebay; everything she likes is either too big or almost as much as retail price. I guess Saturday will be another shopping day. (Oh darn!)

All of my dresses my Mom bought me were always in different price ranges, and depending on the season too, so were the shoes...and don't forget a purse or small bag; then accessories, make up, hair.....oops, getting off track here....I guess I can't give a definite answer, but I can say the most expensive was for Senior Prom and that formal was over $300.00.....but it was and still is so beautiful!

junior prom - $100.
senior prom - $10 at salvation army (my whole group of friends went retro and all the girls did 60's dresses).

in college for sorority events - i averaged about $100. i have a formal event that i have to go to every year and i usually average about $100/dress on that too.

The most I spent was $175. Got to love Filene's and their clearance sales
My Mother didn't pay for my prom or formal dresses- I did.

My junior year, I had to have a "scarlett o'hara" dress in light blue with the hoop-like thing underneath - in 1989 - what was I thinking? It was about $250 and then with the slip, shoes etc., my parents spent about $350 - I now can't stand looking at the picture and my dh dies laughing everytime he sees it.

For senior year, for some reason at our school the girls were all supposed to wear white (which is NOT my color). I bought a white lacy dress at Ormond's (are they even around anymore?) for about $60.

I tried on a BEAUTIFUL dress today it looks very 50's Glamour! It is normally $200, but on sale for $100! I'm going to take my parents tomorrow to see it!! Im excited! I hope that it works!

Most I spent on a formal dress was 200.00 and that was my WEDDING DRESS!!!!!!
I bought my Sr. prom dress for 10.00 YES 10.00!!!
I spent 40.00 on my exBF Sr prom.
I think my dresses are still hanging in my parents basement.
