how much weight did you gain at WDW??

The most weight I've "gained" over a week's stay was 9 lbs. I say "gained" because 9 lbs equates to about 30,000 extra calories - which I didn't do. But Disney most food is very high in sodium, which will cause water retention. So don't freak out if you come home heavier on the scale. Give yourself a couple of days for your real number.

Unfortunately for me, that 9 lbs was still 4 or 5 after a couple days of normalcy at home.

I agree with this. Normally I come home up a pound or 2. (I think all the walking while pushing a double stroller helps! ;)) But after being home a day or two I generally am 2-3 lbs lighter than when I left.
 
We always eat whatever we like when we are at WDW and even on the Deluxe dining plan we find that with all the walking we do that it does not really have a massive impact on our weight. If we put on a couple of extra pounds then we don't worry about it as we are on vacation and can always put in the extra effort to lose it when we get back home if necessary.
 
I gained 6lbs in 7 days last year. I just lost 40 lbs and am not worried about gaining when I go back. I will try to make as healthy choices as I can but after all it is a vacation and I plan on indulging. Don't sweat it once you get back the Disney pounds will drop off in a couple weeks.

Great thread. I have the same concerns and actually since Jan 1, have also lost 35lbs. I am glad to see that most people either don't gain much or get it off quickly once you return.

I laughed at the Unoffical Guide and their weight gain avoidance advice. "Wear pants that are too tight"
 

I gained 6lbs in 7 days last year. I just lost 40 lbs and am not worried about gaining when I go back. I will try to make as healthy choices as I can but after all it is a vacation and I plan on indulging. Don't sweat it once you get back the Disney pounds will drop off in a couple weeks.

haha wear pants that are too tight... that would just make me miserable, not deter me from eating! hahaha

I've never gained weight while at WDW...sometimes I've even lost with all the walking. I tend to eat what I want....it's vacation.
 
I gained 15 pounds from 3 days in Universal and 4 night Disney cruise!! I flipped out when I got home.:scared1: I had just lost a lot of weight on a low carb diet and all the carbs made it pack back on really fast. Half of it was water weight though. My legs and feet were really swollen and several pounds came off very fast when I got back home.
Walking in the parks doesnt really make a difference in keeping the weight off while splurging on vacation because I'm a big walker at home. I did the Avon Walk for breast cancer...39 miles over a weekend and didnt lose an ounce!!
 
on a trip when we ate quick service... i gained 7 lbs.

since then, we've done the deluxe dining plan and i either lose 2, stay the same or up 1 or 2--but no more than that. lots of walking, swimming and sweating help :)
 
I do not gain any but I think DH does....he is a huge snacker and that can get away from him.

We drink tons of water, do lots of walking and swimming in the pool...plus when it is super hot like it was this past May we didnt eat alot and skipped snacks/meals
 
Yeah, after reading these posts some of the high gain for me is travel. I always gain when traveling. Does flying cause water retention? I seem to think it does because when I fly I gain, even if I keep eating the same way.
 
Last disney trip we had the DDP and I gained 5 lbs.
Trip before that, no dining plan, and I lost 3 lbs.

Yeah, after reading these posts some of the high gain for me is travel. I always gain when traveling. Does flying cause water retention? I seem to think it does because when I fly I gain, even if I keep eating the same way.

I think it does, I'll be on the lookout for this.

For those of you have problems with the water retention (I certainly do) - I recommend Waterex pills at GNC. They are $12.99 and help regulate water in your body so you don't bloat and overly retain water. They have worked well for me!
 
Well, I USED to gain a 1-4 LBS , but then I took up Martial arts/boxing, and bulit up muscle....Which does weigh more than fat...so when we go to disney , I actually LOSE weight, but in reality, I think I am losing muscle mass, if that makes sense! :laughing:

Apparently, the boxing blasts about 800 calories per session!
As soon as I get back, I get right back into it, and start feeling great agian.

Muscle weighs more than fat? Explain that please. I always thought that one pound of fat weighed the same as one pound of muscle.

A cup of muscle weighs more than a cup of fat. I think that would be a more accurate statement. It has to do with density.

Muscle does burn more fat though....

That was my point. Muscle weighs more than fat is a false statement. Muscle is more dense than fat and fat is more voluminous than muscle is a more accurate statement.
 
Leaving in 30 days - on DxDP for the first time. I've recently lost 35 lbs (still have more to lose) and am trying to at least maintain while we are at Disney for a week. At the same time, I want to give myself a little slack to eat what I like (fried food junkie), and eat some of those desserts! I know we will be doing a ton of walking each day and I doubt I'll have much time to get a work out in otherwise. I recently went to Seattle and ate junk all week and did a lot of walking, but not nearly as much as we will do at Disney, and I didn't gain anything. I'm not counting on the same luck at WDW :laughing: How much did you gain if any, and do you have any tips??

OHMYGOSH Do not even worry! :rotfl: My family and I eat whatever we like in Disney and end up losing a noticeable amount of weight:woohoo:. It's pretty crazy.
 
I enjoyed the deluxe dining plan, and it was interesting to have so many desserts in such a short period of time. We did a lot of eating and a lot of walking. My husband lost weight! On our 10 day trip, I gained over 9 lbs. That was about a pound a day. It all came off not tooo long after we got back though. Since you are already in weight loss mode, it should not take long to lose any weight you may gain. Enjoy the deluxe plan and eat away. Kick up your workouts and healthy eating when you get home.

This is probably why my husband lost weight too. He usually goes to the gym about six times a week and does very heavy lifting. His muscle mass is huge. Taking time off from lifting seems to reduce muscle mass quickly. In a mass to mass comparison (not pound to pound to satisfy another poster's question), losing muscle would take off more weight than losing fat.

After eating all that food though, he says he is able to have really great workouts and lift even heavier than usual. That helps him gain his weight (muscle) back more quickly. My tip for you would be to lift heavy when you get back. With all those calories in your system to fuel your workout, you can gain muscle more quickly. That muscle in turn would burn more fat calories per hour. Once again, enjoy all of your meals to the fullest.

I have been lifting for 10 years. Going real heavy doesn't burn as many calories or build as much muscle as lifting for reps in the 8-10 range. The heavier you lift, the less reps you can do and the less blood is pumped into the muscles. However, if pure strength is your goal, then heavy lifting is the way to go. I do agree with one thing though. After a week of eating at WDW, the carb overload and subsequent muscle rest will give you the energy needed to have really productive lifting sessions.
