I'm going to WDW March 2003 and want my teenage daughter to come with me - to motivate myself, I'm going to tell her that if I lost ____ pounds in 5 weeks, will she promise to come with me. She is not sure right now if she wants to come (it will be our 10th visit).

What is a good amount to go for? According to weight watchers, I need to lose 23 pounds as a first goal.

One pound a week is a reasonable, safe amount of weight to lose, but it's possible to lose a little more (around 2-3 pounds/week) safely if you have a lot of weight to lose.

Good luck!

I would change it...I would say that for the next 5 weeks I would exercise 4x a week for at least a half hour (even a walk counts!) and eat healthfully (get those all of those fruits/veggies/lean proteins/whole grains, skip the junk) everyday, or 5 out of 7 or whatever you think is reasonable. If drinking water is difficult, you could choose to say I'll drink all 8-10 glasses each day.

I think choosing a number just sets you up for discouragement...either you lose more and you think, hey, this is easy...and when the loss slows down you give up.

Or you don't lose that easily to begin with...very discouraging!

If you decide to go another route and focus on health...not only will you feel great by the end of those 5 weeks, but you will also probably be lighter too boot!

Good luck!

1-2 pounds per week is what most folks recognize as a safe and maintainable rate of weight loss :)

I'd say five and really work on it to achieve more.
If you have a lot to lose, the first two weeks usually
-no promises-sheds several pounds. Everyone is
different. How about setting a goal for reasonably
staying on the WW program and see what that
weight loss is?
If you drink the water and moderately increase your
excersize as well as following the plan of meals
and calories, 5 lbs should be fairly easy in 5 weeks. You
might have inspired me to go back to WW. thanks!

I am a nutritionalist and sell Herbalife Products. I myself lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks without hardly trying. I lost a total of 30 pounds in 3 months. I have clients that have lost 10-15 pounds and up to 20 overall inches in 2 weeks. Then, after that initial loss, mostly goes down to 2-4 pounds per week. It's a wonderful product and Effedra free! No harsh stimulants or jittery feelings! And, no special food to buy, you eat what you want, just in moderation.

Without "help" and with a lot of willpower I would guess 2 pounds per week wouldn't be out of reach!

1-2 pounds a week is reasonable and safe. I would set your goal at 7-8 pounds in 5 weeks.

O.K Shelly I'm sold!How/where/and how much are your products?

I'd have to agree with shortbun -- make the goal staying on program with WW for the 5 weeks. If you stay on program that entire length of time, no matter what your total weight loss is, you've done your best. Individual weight loss is too difficult to determine without knowing a lot of factors (especially how far over optimal weight you are).

Odds are, your first 1-2 weeks of WW, you'll lose like 2-5 pounds a week, but then you potentially might plateau at that point for another week or two.

I am hoping for 2 pounds a week from now til Christmas. I think that 2 a week is reasonable. Good luck...I hope it works out!

We have a variety of products at a variety of costs. The Effedra Free appetite control/metabolism booster is $29.95 for a one month supply.

If you email me your address and phone number I can call you to discuss our products and I'll send you a catalog. My website is www.herbalifeconnection.com but my shopping carts are not working very well, I prefer over the phone at this time. The prices on the website include shipping and there is no sales tax.

I agree that there are a lot of "scams" out there right now. My products however have been around for 22 years and have been used by myself, friends, family and others I personally know for a variety of reasons. They are Effedra free and safer to take than some of the stuff you can purchase over the counter at Walmart. You are dealing with someone who can help you specifically with the products rather than playing a guessing game at the drugstore.

I am not trying to sell anything -- someone asked me for information, I gave it. No one has to respond or feel obligated!

Well then, as a professional, you should know that it's Ephedra, not Effedra.

Please excuse my spelling -- I am trying to squeeze these posts in between my day job as a bookkeeper, not a teacher! I never said I was a good speller did I? I am new to the Community Board though, so, if good spelling is required I guess I better excuse myself right now!?!;)

Shelly -

Stick around. You'll meet a lot of nice people and have a lot of fun. :)

I have lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks on Weight Watchers.... I really think that modifying your eating habits while eating what you normally like and increasing your activity level is the way to go!
