I know you're supposed to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but I have a hard time doing that. Lately, all I drink is water (no soda, juice, tea, etc.)....but sometimes I notice that I'll only had a glass at lunch and that's about it. I won't drink anything else the rest of the day. I KNOW this is bad, and I'm suffering from it.

I've been trying to drink as many glasses as possible lately, and flavoring it with huge chunks of lemon...but I'm still falling way short. What do you do to get in that recommended amount?

I really don't like water, so it's hard for me to drink alot of it. I usually force a couple glasses down per day, but if it were up to me, I'd skip it altogether.

NONE! The only water I get is in a glass of Coke or tea or in my food. I'm just too picky about my water. I know it's not good for me, but neither is brown water or water that fizzes.

I can't help because I have always drank water it just quenches the thirst better. By the way I get more than 8 glasses a day.

At least 120oz a day.

Steph, we actually get a lot of that "8 glasses" requirement from just eating. And its okay to drink Coke, other things as well, the water in them still counts (so do the empty calories as well, though.)

I think the goal is 64 oz. I drank a glass of water this morning, and two 20 oz. bottles at work today. Plus a coke at lunch. So I think I'm doing okay...I'm not up to par, either, but I'm getting there.

As long as you drink something when you're thirsty, I think you're okay!

I really try to drink as much as I can, but fall short of the 8 glasses. What I find that helps is to keep bottled water in the fridge. If I'm thirsty and it's there, I'll take it. Otherwise, I'm more likely to grab a soda instead!

I drink TONS...I love water. I always have a glass of ice water by my side....I am baffled by people who don't drink ANY???? I cannot imagine...don't you get THIRSTY???????;)

exactly, I need water after I have a soda, glass of milk, hot tea....I am wierd

I will tell you about my MIL...she has drunk very little all her life. Nothing between meals and only a tiny amount of mlik or juice at meals. She has always been amazed at how much water I drink...at least 6 glasses a day. Plus other bev like pop, milk, lemonade.

She is paying for it with painful gallstones and UTI's.

Drink, woman!Water gives you energy!

herc.

I drink at least a 1 liter bottle at work. That's not counting my ice tea on the way to work and at lunch. It it's a work out day I drink about 3 liter size bottles.

I LOVE water! We have a water cooler in our kitchen, makes it very convenient to drink water!
I drink about 10-12 8 ounce glasses a day.
Here in AZ, you really need to drink that much water!

::yes:: This is what I do, too! I am terrible about drinking water, but if it is in the fridge and cold, I'll take that!

The requirements for water really should be just that...WATER. Sure you can drink other things but most health links will tell you that the other things do NOT count. I try to drink at least 100 ounces each day. Sometimes I don't make it and sometimes I drink more than that in addition to a diet soda or crystal lite.

I fill my Walt Disney World collectors cup that we got pop in at WDW for about 6.00 every day 2xs. Plus I drink Decaf Coffee and Diet Soda. I occasionally do Crystal Light. All of the water you drink does not need to be water only. Crystal Light and Diet Caffeine Free Soda are good, even better being Sodium Free.

Maybe if you use a big cup and give an effort to finish it, that would help. Also, I like drinking from my Mickey cup. ::yes::

well, considering after my morning coffee, all I drink till bedtime is water, I'm sure to exceed the 8 glasses!....We have a water/ice dispenser in our fridge, and since I got home from teaching a guard class, I've had 4 glasses. I got home at 8. I usually buy 3-4 bottles of water a day while I'm out and about...

my kids are big water drinkers too, at meals, they have milk, but anything other than meals, it's water

Brandy

Not enough. I go through bouts where I can't get enough of it and I'll drink 100 ounce of it or more a day for several days, then other days I might have a teaspoon full. I read today a god way to remember how much water to drink each day though. It said at minimum, drink 64 ounces of water each day. Get a 16 ounce water bottle, place 4 rubber bands on it and each time you fill up the bottle, take one the band of. Once you're out of bands, out of water, you've reached your goal for the day. I might try that ometime when I can remember it.;)

The 8 glasses of water per day is probably a myth. If you are hiking in Death Valley, 8 glasses is not enough. If you are drinking tea on a cold day in Scotland, 8 glasses should be way too much..

It has become accepted wisdom: "Drink at least eight glasses of water a day!" Not necessarily. The universal advice that has made guzzling water a national pastime is more urban myth than medical dogma and appears to lack scientific proof.

Here's part of the abstract of the article from the American Journal of Physiology debunking the 8 glasses of water a day myth:
Despite the seemingly ubiquitous admonition to "drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day" (with an accompanying reminder that beverages containing caffeine and alcohol do not count),rigorous proof for this counsel appears to be lacking. This review sought to find the origin of this advice (called "8 x 8" for short) and to examine the scientific evidence, if any, that might support it. The search included not only electronic modes but also a cursory examination of the older literature that is not covered in electronic databases - and most importantly and fruitfully, extensive consultation with several nutritionists who specialize in the field of thirst and drinking fluids. No scientific studies were found in support of 8 x 8. Rather, surveys of food and fluid intake on thousands of adults of both genders - analyses of which have been published in peer-reviewed journals - strongly suggest that such large amounts are not needed because the surveyed persons were presumably healthy and certainly not overtly ill. This conclusion is supported by published studies showing that caffeinated drinks (and, to a lesser extent, alcoholic beverages) may indeed be counted toward the daily total, as well as by the large body of published experiments that attest to the precision and effectiveness of the osmoregulatory system for maintaining water balance.
