I thought I'd treat my wife and do a load of washing while she's at work, (who knows, I might get lucky tonight ;) ) I'm having trouble working out how much powder to use. Is there a set amount, or does it depend how much you've got in there? I've got it pretty stuffed full.

Thanks.

it should tell you on the pack what to use dependant on the load size and how soiled the garments are.

Good luck!! :flower:

It also has a dryer on it. Are the clothes supposed to be bone dry when it's finished and how long should I dry them for?

Try one cup of laundry detergent, and dry them for one hour! :cool1: Hope all goes well tonight... :cool1:

shouldn't "stuff it full" as the clothes clean by having the sopy water move over them. If it's packed it doesn't clean well. If it's a newer dryer most of them have an automatic mode that senses the moisture and shuts off when the clothes are dry.

First of all, you're a sweety.

Second, unstuff the clothes. They won't get clean that way. Usually the soap has a scoop in the box. As long as you don't put in more than that scoop, you'll be alright.

What kind of clothes are you washing, make sure before you put them in the washer that they can be washed. And some clothes should not be dried.

One good thing to do is to ask your wife to put up an instruction sheet with the minor details so that you won't have to ask. :teeth:

I would be horrified if my DH did my laundry. First of all, all my clothing is washed on delicate cycle and I never dry my clothing in the dryer. Plus I'm a super separator, towels w/ towels, sheets w/ sheets, jeans w/ jeans and so on and so on. I never wash his clothing with mine.

I only use 1/4 of a cup of laundry powder. On heavily soiled clothing I also add 1/2 cup baking soda.

If he wanted to wash his own clothing that would be fine with me. Hands off my clothing, or else he would never get lucky again. :)

If you have to ask how much detergent.......Put the laundry down!!!!

First seperate clothes, whites, darks, delicates, etc... Can't do that? Then STOP you are done.

Listen to Mystery! Sweet thought, but no. Don't.

The white stuff has all turned grey. Is that what you meant? If I re-wash them with some bleach, they should be ok, right?

I don't think you're gonna get lucky tonight - it's the dog house for you! :dog:

Oh boy...

Yes, try re-washing the whites in bleach to see if you can get the dye from the other clothes out. But FIRST....

Go through all the whites to be sure they are pure white, if they have other colors in them DO NOT BLEACH!!! And they have to be pure white, not off-white or ivory, the bleach will ruin them.

Second, don't put too much bleach in, too much will damage the clothing. Follow the directions on the bleach bottle.

If you re-wash them right away (before they dry) you might be okay. I had to do that once when a dark sock got mixed in with my whites only wash, most things turned out okay after I re-washed.

I think you may be right, I've pretty much ruined all the white stuff, (none of it was mine though, so that's a bonus).

They call them "automatic" washing machines, you'd expect it to know what it was doing.

:confused3 me, too.

I admit it...I'm a woman and I don't separate!

Me neither...unless it's a dark color that hasn't been washed before. Other than that, everything goes in cold and everything goes in together. :)

Wow, I thought white was white. Thanks for the advice, but I'll give it a miss. I've dried it all now and I'm going to put the stuff that's ok back in the dirty washing basket, hide the rest and deny all knowledge.

Hmmm...did you ever think that DW wouldn't appreciate the changes to her wardrobe? I suggest that you run out & get the ingredients for a REALLY nice meal to surprise her with when she gets home.
