Maybe this will help everyone understand that free dining is just a marketing ploy by Disney to fill rooms.

The switch to the free dining package would cost you the difference between the rate you currently have booked (with any discounts) and full rack rate for your room and tickets, minus any dining plan you may have previously added.

As noted above, "free dining" isn't truly free in any sense of the word, it's just a package discount that may (or may not) be the best value discount available for a particular party on specific dates. Note that Disney does not allow "stacking" multiple package discounts on the same reservation, so be sure that "free dining" is indeed the best discount for your group that is offered at that time.

If you're asking how much to upgrade free QSDP to DDP or DxDP, that's a whole other question.

It's just the difference in price. If you want to upgrade to regular dining plan which gets you 1 QS, 1 TS and 1 snack per person per night, it would cost $11 per person per night. If you want to upgrade to deluxe dining plan which has 3 meal credits per person per night to use how you want (TS or QS) and 2 snacks per day, it's $44 per person per night. Just subtract the QS cost. Not sure about children's costs or if there is any difference in tax with the package.

Correct, since the OP is talking about January, which means 2012 prices, not 2011 prices.

It also depends on which season you are going in. The Dining Plan goes up during peak seasons then it goes from $17 to $19 per person. And that is per night so do the math before you decide to change anything.
