How much to tip Mousekeeper??

If I didn't tip ANY housekepping staff who cleaned up after me....MY MOTHER would find out and Smack me! HARD! And my grandmother, a former housekeeper, will come out of her grave and kick my keester from one end of disney to the other end of disney!
Tip & Tip BIG...Trust me ...if Mousekeeping didnt do a good job you would notice the difference immediately!!!!!!

I never implied that it is wrong to tip someone in a non-tipped position. But to say it is only right to tip them imply's that it IS wrong to NOT tip, which it is not.

If you want to tip that is your business. But please do not imply that it is wrong to follow the rules (guidelines).

But your post could have implied that it was and that doing more than one is obliged is wrong.

I agree completely. Tipping should be reserved for those who do go above and beyound. Not simply given out of "duty" because you feel you have to.

But that is what 'duty' is...duty is an obligation one voluntarily accepts and an obligation that, once completed, is rewarded with a thing called self-respect. I think what you're trying to say is don't do it because other people think you should. Completely different.

I'll continue to tip mousekeeping and anyone else I wish because to not do so goes against the way I was raised and the way I view life. Your viewpoint is different. Neither is wrong, neither is right in an absolute sense, only at the personal level.

So enjoy your Disney vacation...or your vacation to anywhere really. I hope the housekeeper/maid service you receive is exactly the kind you no-tippers deserve.

Gee, but tell us how you REALLY feel. :rolleyes2

Nothing has been said here on either side that requires that level of immaturity or mean-spiritedness. :confused3 How sad and un-Disney :guilty:

For you, others have opinions, you have FACTS. Or put another way, you will defend to the death my right to AGREE with you. :sad2:

Everyone's viewpoint is based on their OWN beliefs and experience. Whether I agree or disagree with someone, I treat others with respect. Something to condsider perhaps? ;)

Not quite. When I go to a restaurant I am OBLIGATED to leave a tip because that is how the system is set up, even here in California where the severs make full minimum wage ($6.75/hr). IMO, a tip should be because the server went out of their way to make my meal a pleasent one. That does NOT mean I don't leave a tip. I just don't like feeling it should be expected or an OBLIGATION.

If the mousekeeper went out of there way to make my stay a pleasent one then and ONLY then would I consider leaving a tip. Just because they clean my room does not make then deserving of a tip.

As for self respect. I have NEVER felt self respect because I left a tip that I was OBLIGATED to leave.

Christa, you're talking about obligations imposed by society that you disagree with but seem to comply with. I feel the same way about most taxes.

The point you're missing is some of us can not not leave a tip. It isn't in our worldview, it is a self-imposed obligation (i.e duty) willingly accepted (or drilled into our psyche by mom, which amounts to the same in the end).

Obviously, you have a different world view. And that's OK. Some people must stop and pick up stray dogs or must stop the car to see if the person broken down on the road needs help.

It is customary at any hotel/motel to tip $1.00 per person, per day. Standard travel industry. :)
