How much to tip in Palo or Remy?

i wasn't that impressed either, actually. The view is gorgeous and I loved the privacy and quiet table, but I found our waiter hovered and brought us too much food. We asked his opinion a couple of times, he offered it, we ordered and then he just brought us both items. We can't eat that much and it seems so wasteful. I know a lot of people think that is great service, but really, it's no big deal to them to bring us two. I didn't ask for two and I didn't appreciate two.

I mean the food was fine and the service was fine, but I was expecting something miraculous from what I had read previously.

I am quite the foodie and go out a lot, and honestly, it was just fine, but not amazing. Maybe we had an off night. We'll try it again on our next cruise as we are platinum now (wow) and get a free dinner. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. And I'll tip what I please and feel fine about it, no matter what others do!

On our last 4 day Dream cruise, for 2 people we tipped an extra $25 at Palos and $50 at Remy's. While we were only in the MDR for 2 nights, we still doubled the recommended tip for our server and assistant server.

Yes the service and experience warranted these additional tips. But also I think back to my serving days in college and I can't imagine how hard it would be to do that on a ship for 80+hours/week for 6 months straight.

Why tip based on what it might cost on land? You are NOT on land. At a restaurant on land, you are not paying $1000's to be at the location.

When you get back from your restaurant on land; you are going back to your house or apartment. You are not going back to your room that is made up for you each morning, made ready for bed each night, going to a dinning room with full service and food included, shows each night, family/adult entertainment each day/night. Food service on different decks where you don't pay extra for your choice. Ports of call on some mornings.

That is where your $1000.00 is going to. You do not have to make a reservation for Palo or Remy; if you don't want to pay the additional fee, and you do not have to add an additional tip at the end of the meal if you feel your service was sub-par (or great for that matter), but my wife and I will and always do tip above and beyond the extra cost of the restaurant for great service.

Not true. As some restaurants are at 5 star resorts, I could very well be going back to a made up room. Also, your reply had nothing to do with tipping based on an imaginary price in an imaginary restaurant instead of the actual price which some have expressed that they do.

Is your five star resort all inclusive like a cruise? First I have to admit that we have never done an all inclusive resort vacation. So I don't know if an all inclusive resort has a signature restaurant or two that has an additional fee like DCL. But if they are our there, I think it is comparing it to an all inclusive cruise.

Leaving from your house to go to a five star restaurant just to go home again is not comparing apples to apples. I'm not sure what you mean by an imaginary price.

To those that make frequent enough trips to a five star restaurant at home or while on a land vacation; I think they have enough of an idea what the Palo or Remy dinner would cost in comparison to these. We don't do five star restaurants so I can't make a good comparison between the two.

But I do know that we have had fantastic service from each of our servers when we have gone to Palo and we are looking forward to eating at Remy. And we will tip above and beyond the additional cost of eating there; if we feel it is deserved. I am not putting anyone down for not adding an extra tip at the end of their meal. I am answering the question of HOW MUCH WE TIP AT PALO.

There will be a space on the final Palo bill to add a gratuity for your specific server. Same as at the bars. Main dining tips are done differently.

We always had amazing service at Palo and left $25-$30 each time we ate there.
