How much to tip housekeeping??

OK we will be staying at CBR for 8 nights.

Should i tip daily - how much is the avg? i hear people saying $5 bucks a day - that seems a bit much to me - what do you guys tip. We'll be a family of 4!

For those who tip Mousekeeping (and not everyone does), the generally accepted amount is $1-$2 per person per night. I leave $5 for our family of 4.

We leave $4 every day - $1 per person. You want to leave it every day since the staff may change while you are there. We decorate an envelope with disney stickers or preprint disney pictures on them. I also leave a couple of pieces of candy. This has earned us some extra "magic". We have found towels on the bed folded like rabbits, our stuffed animals arranged in a special way, towels in the bathroom folded like flowers, etc. It is kind of neat to come back to the room to this.

Yep, $5 sounds about right for us. A few bucks more for turndown service.

We tip $5 for our family of four.

I also 'clean-up' our towels in the AM, tidy up the beds and no items left scattered on the floor or bathroom counter.

I would rather have guest services vacume my room everyday and place clean towels in the bathroom, than spending time picking up items off the flloor or trying to clean the bathroom counter with toothbrushes and hair brushes laying around the sink area.

I think tipping is appropriate if you get great service.
Complain to the front desk if you are missing towels, beds are not made, floor is dirty,.....

We also tip $1. per person, per day. We are a family of 4 so we tip $4 - $5 a day. We tip daily in case we have a different mousekeeper each day.

I love getting the mousekeeping envelopes ready before my trip. One less thing to worry about. HERE is where I get the designs for my mousekeeping envelopes!

Although some may disagree on tipping mousekeeping, my family always has and always will. Just as we tip them on the DCL cruise and at all other hotels and motels. That Disney flyer scanned in the above post is just a 'suggestion/guideline' and doesn't say "do not tip Mousekeeping"...so I do what I feel comfortable with and that's to tip them. You do what you feel comfortable with. There should be no debate but there always is.

This notice is a courtesy for guest visiting from foreign countries where tipping is not customary, or is calculated into the bill. While housekeeping is not considered to be a tipped position (meaning that they are making at least minimum wage), there is nothing stating that a gratuity will not be accepted nor appreciated.

We tip 5 dollars a day for our family of 4 ... my hubby wouldn't have it any other way .... he is the type who tips atleast 20% in a restaurant as he feels they ain't gonna get rich off what they get payed and some do this job to support a family because it is all they get for a job! Same as he feels for maid service, they are not getting rich off their wages they most likely are just getting by and we are sure the little extra helps in a big way for them and is no loss for us the extra 5 bucks a day! Plus it makes us feel good to give. I know last year our maid really appreciated it because for our 10 day stay we got 10 towel animals plus tons of shampoos and soaps and silly things done with my kids toys as a ty from her .... she was GREAT and I am gonna try to see if I can get in her same block of rooms this year hehe she was so friendly and very nice to us everyday when we saw her.

Well my MIL was a maid briefly and I KNOW how much the tips meant to her. So out of guilt(hey I am catholic....) I tip $5 for our family of 6(baby is the sixth so maybe I need to go up to $6?) a day. I used to just tip at the end of the trip but then I noticed that there are different maids sometimes everyday. What really messed me up was when we had turn down service by a different maid than during the day...she was turning down the bed and giving us clean towels. (so I tipped her too ) Also I prefer to keep the person that is responsible for how clean my towels and sheets are to be happy.

We wouldn't really have thought about tipping Mousekeepers, but I read about it here on Dis Boards and thought it was a really great idea.

We tipped $4 - $5 a day.

I'm not sure if it's JUST because we tipped, but our mousekeepers also made a lot of towel animals and did a bunch of fun things that my boys just loved. One day, they tied a sheet going down the bunkbeds, then used plastic bags to tie all of my boys' stuffed animals on the sheet (like the animals were climbing up). A different day, they put the stuffed animals in a circle on the queen sized bed with a book, opened up, in the middle of the animals. My kids REALLY got a kick out of this stuff and it really added to the Disney Magic.

I also made sure to leave a note when we left to let our MouseKeepers know how much we appreciated all the extra little things they did to make our vacation more magical. How could they NOT appreciate that?

We did five bucks a day, but we always tip, everywhere. I put myself through med school bartending. Well, okay, that and student loans. The great part about us showin' a little extra love was the towel animals. Told DD Tinkerbelle was in our room...you know the routine. The "lets go see who is in our room today" bit helped soften the blow when we were leaving a park. That said, I think it is up to you. Even when I was making 2.13 an hour plus tips, I always felt it is up to you, not that you MUST.

hmmmm - I wonder if I leave EMPTY mousekeeping envelopes in my guest room when my Dsis and Great Nephew visit if I will get tips..... Maybe if I learn to make towel animals!!!!
