How Much to the "Beneficiary"?

DVC races have a 'beneficiary' charitable organization. RunDisney info says the race is 'used as a platform' for the beneficiary & that participants can make donations via the race website.

Here's my question: Does any of our hefty entry fee actually go to the charity? Can any of our fee be considered a 'charitable donation'?

I'd hate to think the $140 for a 1/2 @ Disney is only going into race organization & profit.

I am sure you meant Walt Disney World and not DVC and yes a portion of the entry fees is directed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Determining how much you your entry fee actually heads to the LLS is not an easy thing to do. WDWM reports that an approximate $7 million is raised for the LLS annually through the marathon. They saying that all TNT contributions, all voluntary contributions made at entry and a portion of the proceeds go to LLS. With 44,000 entries for the last marathon that would equate to $159 per entry. Obviously, a big chunk of that $7 million is from TNT fundraising. Digging a little further, LLS reports that as a ‘Sponsor Partner’ they contribute between $100 and 499k. The average of $250k would equate to $5 per entry (range from $2.25 up to $11). That actually seems like a reasonable guestimate. I have always through $10 - 15. Obviously, before using any of the above for tax purposes, a person would want consult a tax professional.

Now those are some serious and I'll bet prett acurrate calculations! And yes I meant Disney, not DVC. And sure, a mouse can make a profit in this fine country. As long as that mouse doesn't disguise it as charity. Nonetheless, you won't see my ideals keeping me from attending the Disney races--they're just too much darn fun. And who can argue w/ spending a buck for fitness?
