How much to rent points for a DVC?

So how much DOES it cost to rent points for a DVC type stay? We only need about 4 nights (Sat-Wed check out) at the end of February 2013, which, if Disney follows previous years' seasons, would put it as "regular season". We would need room for 7 people, and would love the Epcot area.

I'm not asking for specific #'s, but is it similar to paying for a standard room in a Deluxe? Moderate? TIA--

If you rent if it about the cost of a Moderate. If you go to http://www.dvcrequest.com/ you can see how many points it would take and the cost.

But 2013 is getting close for DVC booking for I would move fast if you want to rent.

Depending on who you rent from. If you go thru Dave's I find him a tad more expensive (12/pt I think) but you are backed by somebody that's built a lot of confidence in the process with customers. It's cheaper usually to go thru an owner (10/pt seems avg) but you gamble with hoping you can trust them. I'd make sure and just check references with whoever you use if you go that route.

Here's the chart for how many points you'll need/night for your visit

It depends on the type of DVC room you want. For seven people you will need a two bedroom or two studios. Check out the point charts for the exact time frame you are interested in and read the DVC boards. There is an entire forum for rent/trade. It is much cheaper than paying Disney prices, for sure. I bought some BWV points to add onto our DVC ressie and paid 10.00 per point- IT worked out to a little over 200.00 a night for a studio at BWV. Much, much less than if I'd even used my DVC room discount. There is a bit of trust needed for both parties in the transaction process and some people do not feel comfortable in that situation (people have been burned before) and often use a middle man- Dave's DVC Vacation rentals gets good reviews here. (I have not used his service though)

Good Luck, but here's fair warning- You will save lots of cash on the initial ressie but if you are like me you'll wind up joining DVC after you see how wonderful it is. ;)

The last time I rented points I charged $10/point.

If you are looking to rent, I would post in the DVC forum and state what you are looking for. Its much more worth the money I think to rent DVC than pay standard rates at other disney resorts.

Check the top of the Rent/Trade Board on the DVC Boards. There is a link at the top to how many points are required for what kind of rental. Then multiple the number of points by anything from $10-15 per point. Read all the sticky threads at the top of that board because they will give you all the info you need to know about purchasing a reservation from a member.

You lose all ownership of the reservation because the member keeps that and you cannot have it until the moment you check in. You can't call DVC to check on the reservation, to add the dining plan, to add Magical Express or to make a request. Only the member can.

And if you get any unsolicited e-mails that you did not initiate, ignore them.

Actually, you can't post "points wanted" posts on the DVC Rent/Trade board. You can explore the board and see if there are people who have points to rent from the resort you would like to stay at. Though once you get 7 months out from your check-in date, it doesn't matter which resorts' points you rent, they can be used anywhere.

We used the DVC Store and everything went wonderfully. We rented points for Animal Kingdom Lodge--Kidani this past June. It was a two-bedroom, and we figured it to be about the same price as two moderate rooms.

We just told the DVC Store when we wanted to add dining, and they handled the contact with the owner. You can put your information in online to see your reservation anytime you want. The reservation is in your name when you check-in.

DVC seasons don't follow the Disney room seasons. The end of Feb is one of the higher point times. Check the point charts linked by PP. Then you'll be able to estimate how much that would cost. If you decide that is what you want to do, work quickly. You are now at the 7 month mark.

ok, I didn't know you couldn't post what you were looking for. We did put points up once and got alot of responses.

anywhere from $8 to $14 per point.
feb 15-29
bcv/bwv pref - 55 (sat) * 14 = 2016
bcv/bwv pref 48*14*3nights = 770

total - at $14 PER POINT - $2786
at $10 PER point - $1990
at $8 PER POINT - $1592 - this is last minute and BCV probably won't be available

feb 1-15
bcv/bwv pref - 49 (sat) * 14 = 1806
bcv/bwv pref 43*14*3nights =686

total - at $14 PER POINT - $2492
at $10 PER point - $1780
at $8 PER POINT - $1424 - this is last minute and BCV probably won't be available

that say expect to pay at least $12 per point for BCV - BWV you might be able to get for $10 MIGHT

I have had good luck using Dave's - might be a little pricier than finding on your own - but great service!

We rented ours for $11 per point from a poster on the DVC board. Quite a bit less than David's and the transaction was smoothe with great communication from the renter.

I just recently rented points from a member I found here on the rent/trade DVC forums. I paid $11/point and the cost was cheaper than booking a standard room at rack rate for POR. We are staying in a standard view studio.
We aren't going until June, but had decided we wanted to stay at BWV. I had heard that BWV book up fast so I went ahead and contacted the member who had points for rent.
I'm a little nervous as the reservation is him name (my name and others going are listed at the guest names) and he could cancel it anytime. I am able to check my reservation online. It takes a lot of trust but I did all I could before renting to verify the information he had given me including asking for and checking references.
I could have gone through daves or a similar site, but it was cheaper to go this route even after adding trip insurance.
