how much to post a letter to the US ???

i need to send a letter to someone in the states and i wanted to know how much it will cost ? its just a basic letter with two photos inside so its not heavy,however i wanted to send it recorded or equivalent so i know its got there,so does anyone know how much it will cost and how long it will take to get there
i tried the royal mail website but it just confused me ( i am very easily confused )

Seriously, if its any help I recently sent a postcard to the US by airmail which cost 40p. I also sent a letter to France at the same time which also cost 40p. I enquired about sending the letter to France recorded delivery (or equivalent), this was going to cost just over £3 extra so in the end I didn't bother. Would imagine that this gives some indication of what it would cost.

I send post regulary to the states and it takes about a week give or take a day.

On the other hand one of my postcards sent from USA to UK took 5 weeks to arrive

If you send a small package - don't let on there is a letter inside or you will be charged more!

100g Letter to USA (Zone 1) = £2.16

100g Small Package to USA (Zone 1) = £1.31

100g Printed Papers to USA (Zone 1) = £1.25
