I am having a teenage girl watch my girls for 3 days one week. Her mom is a daycare provider. How much should I pay her? The going rate for a daycare is $35-40 a day for each child. They would be at my house so eating my food, playing with their own toys, etc. I was thinking $50-60 a day for both. What do you think?

I think that sounds great!
Where I live it's about $10-$15 an hour! Needless to say, my husband and I have had exaclty 2 dates in the past 10 months :(

Just out of curiosity - why would you pay a teen in your own home more than an adult in another location? I would pay no more than the $35 @ day. You figure at 3 days @ week that would be $105 a week. Decent money for kid, no?

I forgot to say--now edited--that it is $35-40 for each child per day of daycare ($75-80 a day) and I was thinking of doing $25-30 per child or $50-60 for both girls per day.

How many hours? I would pay the same for someone watching the child in my home regardless of the age of the sitter. I currently have in home daycare and pay $50 a day for one child.

I have a 20 dd who is a college student she babysits neighbors during the day every so often 2-3 kids and gets paid 8-10$ an hour. I think that rate is more than fair when you consider min wage 8$ an hour! she works for a major chain restaurant as a hostess and only makes 8$/hour there she rather babysit!!

I think it depends on where you live.

What does she expect to make? I know a lot of daycare centers only pay employes like $8-10 an hour for watching lots of kids (I'm in NC).

When I had my kids with a sitter last summer she only charged me $150 a week (she was just looking for extra income) for 2 school age children.

I think you paying $100 for the 3 day-week is PLENTY....esp when its in your home (your food, electricity, etc.).

Good Luck!

How many hours will they be there? Do they have to help fix an actual meal? Do you expect them to help with homework?

When I used to babysit, it was $5-$10 per kid per hour.

M ykids would be begging to be your sitter!

My DD15 gets about $3-5 an hour depending on how many kids. My DD11 just got certified this past weekend to be a babysitter. She was born for this. She laredy had put toether a bag of crayons and coloring pages, crafts, silly bandz for good beaivor as well as her safety stuff, emergency numbers, etc. I think she'd pay people to let her come babysit. She is so upset no one has called her yet (I posted her "ad" on Facebook Saturday afternoon.) She doesn't get that people don't go out that much anymore.

I will say back when I was doing it on a more regular basis in high school I got paid more then the pope who were just going to dinner or a movie at night. Not sure why that was but that seemed to have been how it worked.

My DD16 gets $10.00/hour for babysitting...whether it's one kid or three.

THis is just a one week deal--when I go back to work, but the kids still are out of school. So there is no homework, just fixing one meal--lunch (sandwiches and stuff) and a snack or two. It would be 8-9 hours the first day, 8 the second day and 6 the 3rd day. I haven't used her to babysit before, but they are friends of the family and her mom lives close.

I would ask her how much she wants. Personally my daughter gets $10 an hour for babysitting.

Daycare is for one kid at that rate correct? $40 a day per child. So it would be $80 a day in daycare. You want to offer $60 a day. I get where you are coming from in thinking them being in your house means less cost but also factor in she has to travel to your home. You won't have to hurry to get them out of the house in the morning. You get the benefit of her coming into your home.

Really though the only way to know is to talk to the girl. Ask what she is looking for. She may want less than you are thinking about. Or maybe more?

how old is the teenager? i would pay a little more for an 18 yo than an 14 yo. Since in theory the 18 yo is more mature.

But i would think about $50-60 per day is about right.

I don't think the hourly rate really works when it is whole day. My DD19 babysat during the summer for full days- 1familiy had 3 childs and she got $35.00 for the day and the other familiy was 1 child and she got 20.00 per day. Now I know daycare is checking where we live. I pay 60 a week for DD5 in a home daycare.

I think you are about right. If you are friends with the family the girl may feel funny about setting a price so I would probably say to her "would you watch the girls next week for $150, it would be Monday, wed, Thurs" or whatever it is.
This way it makes it easier for her and she knows what you want to pay and can say yes or no. If she says no then you can say is it the money? and give her then the chance to give a price.
My DD got $30 for the kids next door for 4 hours but they were only up for 1 hour of the time and other times when she has sat they have given her more.

I've always paid according to how much that they have to do. ABout $50 per day is about right unless they have had to do more. I had an 18 y/o baby sitter & I paid her extra if she picked my kids up from school. I paid about $10 per hour for regular sitting.

Well, usually you pay more to have someone watch children in your own home than if you dropped them off at someone else's home. How many hours a day? Teens here get $8 - $12 an hour, and I'd expect to pay more for individual attention at my house than at a group daycare that I had to drop them off at. I had a summer babysitting gig 20 years ago, and I got paid $6 an hour.

Because it costs more to have a sitter come and watch only your kids, vs. a drop-off daycare where there are other children. Drop-off here at home centers is usually only $25 for each child.

On other thing to consider is how is she getting to your house? If she's driving herself, how far is it?

My DD was asked to babysit for 2 hours for one of her camp kids (special education child). She drove herself to the house a few miles from home. By the time you factor in her time driving and the cost of the gas, she didn't really make much money at all.

Personally, I would pay the going rate of all day care in your area. It's really more of a convenience to you are your children for them to be at your house instead of at the sitters.

I would go with the $60 per day, I think that works out to $7.50 an hour based on 8 hour days. If your girls get along well with each other that would be a plus, if not then the teenager is going to have her hands full.
