We will be staying at the AKV Jambo house this January. This is our 3rd trip, but first time saying at AKL. I want to make sure I plan plenty of time to explore the resort and enjoy everything it has to offer.

How much time have you spent at the resort, and what are your must dos there?

I don't think you will need to plan much time at all. We have stayed there before and never took time away from our days to spend time at the lodge. I think you can do it all in the evening or before going to the park in the morning. Seeing the animals will be the biggest thing, other than that there's not alot to do. You can sit by the fire at night, look threw the night vision goggles at night to see the animals, swim and once in a while we saw them doing childrens activities in the lobby. I don't think there's much more to do unless things have changed. maybe someone else will add something.

There are lots of fun things that go on all day at the resort. They have boards posted in the lobby and near the doors going out to the food court that list the activities for each day. They have face painting, tours, games, folktales, animal tracking, animal enrichment, and lots more! Different things for different days of the week. The last time we were there my kids and I made ceramics. We painted them one day and picked them up the following day. They were great souvenirs.

We will be back there in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to spending more time in the resort this visit.

We stayed there for a couple days during Expedition Everest Challenge. It was fun! We didn't get a lot of time to explore, it seems like, but checking out the animals using night goggles was a lot of fun! That hotel is beautiful (:

Whenwe stayed at AKL we spent a good half day doing things. Next time we will plan 2 half days or 1 full day-now for us this does include pool time too. We did night vison googles, animal tracking, music, cookie decorating & tours of boma & Jiko. I would like more time to see more of the art work that is in the hallways. So much to do at AKL & it is a wonderful resort.

I think you could easily spend an entire day at AKL. They have lots of great resort activities. They will give you a schedule in your check in packet.

My favorite things (besides just hanging out watching the animals) were:

Culinary Tour of Boma and Jiko (includes some tasting!)

African Folktales around the firepit in the evenings

Cultural Safari - a talk from one of the CM's from Africa on their homeland or something relevant to it (I've been to one on South Africa, and another about the Big Cats of Botswana)

I really want to do the Sanaa culinary tour and the Kidani Village Design Tour!

Here's an example of an activity guide, but remember they change from month to month so this is just a representation of possible offerings.

In June we spent 2 nights at AKL Concierge level after a week at BLT and 5 nights on Disney Cruise. The reason i say this is because we expected to stay solely at AKL for the 2 nights (2.5 days). And it wasn't enough for us. We didn't get to do all the bead/kids activities, we didn't get to do all the animal feedings and such, wanted to do the drum / music lesson again. Anyway we loved it and wish we had more time. Have fun with the surprise. Mine was a surprise for my DH too.

DD and I spent an entire day exploring AKL before we went to MVMCP and there and didn't get to do it all. There's so much for you to do, especially if you have kids. They have activites all day long, and at night you can do the firepit and night vision goggles.

We don't have kids, so I know that some of the activities are out.

Thank you all so much!

sounds like they have added a lot of stuff to do since we have stayed there. the tours would be fun i'm sure. hope you have a great trip.
