How does that sound to you seasoned planners? We do like to go commando style in the parks but would like to enjoy POR as well. As you can see above, Thursday is our "down time" but there is mnsshp at night so that's why I chose that day to relax at the resort...too much park time? Is 2/3 of a day enough to get the taste of POR? Your opinions are appreciated. thx!

The first time I stayed onsite we spent a considerable amount of time at the hotel (not nesseccarily by choice). We would wake up and leave around 10 or 11ish.. then go back to the hotel about 2ish (I was with cheerleaders they would have a meeting), then go back to the parks and leave the parks about 9ish, then spend the rest of the time at the hotel.

The second time I stayed onsite, we only were at the hotel in the early morning and after the parks closed. But it was also January and 30 degrees.

Personally I liked spending time around the hotel.

We always take a mid-week break and do stuff around the resort, or visit other resorts. Disney-itis seems to kick in around day3 and everybody is tired and cranky. sometimes we head over to FW to spend some time, or if we are staying there, we will take a boat to Contemporary and pick up the monorail. Other times we just rent bikes, swim, have a cookout(at FW),or go to DTD to visit the toy store. We don't do command anymore, so our trips are definitely laid-back.

Going along with that, about half-way through the week, we also take a break. We usually head over to Cocoa Beach for the day. (It's only a 45 minute drive!) That way we can just sit and watch the waves come in!

Then back to Disney for the evening dinner and fireworks!! :love2:

We never spend enough time exploring the resort- i'm determined to do that on my next trip. We've stayed at CBR and Poly and never been in their pools! :earseek: because we are always rushing around so much.

We love just hanging out at the resort. For a week long trip, many times we leave the park mid-day - go back to the resort for rest time.

On this abbreviated trip, our first day will be spent at the resort - exploring, etc. Then, the last morning, we will do the same.
Last year, we spent our off day exploring other resorts - that was fun too!

This Aug DS13 & I are planning on lots of time to relax at the resorts
Staying at WL 8nights & BC 6nights so lots of time there
Also meals & pool hopping (DVC) to Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Poly and Boardwalk
will spend time at Ft Wilderness and AKL too

The days we spend at the parks (once regular opening each park) we'll head to the pools after lunch
The days we spend at the pools we'll head to the parks late afternoon/night

For us, it all depends on how long our trip is... last fall, we stayed 4 nights, but had only 3 full days at the parks. We spent arrival afternoon at POFQ pool, and one afternoon, we spent an hour or so resting. Other than that, we were running around too much to explore the resort!

This fall, we will be spending 6 nights/7 days at Pop, so we are scheduling plenty of downtime in to the trip. We will try to take a break for a few hours each day at Pop, and one 1/2 day for just hanging out and exploring before dinner and Trick-or-Treating at BW.

Your plan looks pretty good- are you planning any break time back at POR during each midday? You can swim, or just relax with around the pool.

Great post!!

We, also, are staying at the POR for our honeymoon in September.

I really like your schedule and may use it as a guideline to plan our's. :) We also anticipated spending some down time at the resort(also checking out the sister resort, french quarters). During the midweek sounds like a really good idea!!!

I all honesty we have never gone back to the resort for a midday break...we just feel like we will miss the park time. We even ask the kids if they want to go back & they just want to ride another ride so we stay at the parks...

We are planning a trip in Aug 2006 & for that one we will definately take midday breaks due to the heat. Would love to go to BC & spend alot of time there at SB pool.

Our first day we will probably explore the hotel a little to get to know our surroundings and let the kids stretch their legs after our long drive. Then we'll go to the food court for lunch. We'll probably spend half a day at Animal Kingdom then go to the poll in the afternoon/evening.

Thanks! Have a wonderful honeymoon.

We don't do the midday breaks - BUT we do take a break MID-VACATION and spend that day at the resort, eat at the resort restaurant, and just enjoy! It's my favorite day of the trip, usually! DH used to want the parks, but now he looks forward to the day (I always plan it smack in the middle).
