How Much Spends??!!

Sorry if this is a question that does the rounds! But how much cash should I Take? 2K 3K or even 4K I cant decide
theres 2 adults 2 kids All tickets purchased before we set off,Only restaurant plan in Disney is Bomas and perhaps The Norway one in Epcot And perhaps 1 characterbreakfast,
were staying on I Drive so brekkie will either be in room or Ponderosa type,Counter service lunch at whatever park where in and Tea(Im a Northern lad!) will be either restaurant in Orlando,Wild Jacks etc,
The kids will also have their seperate souvenir money,3 Grand works out at $338 a day,Can anyone help is this OK I cant seem to work it out!! Thanks Ian

Hi Ian. Last 3 trips (2 + 2 kids) where we've eaten out well but not many P.S. at Disney, we've spent £1500 - £2000 over the 2 weeks. We feel that we have doen everything we wanted, denied ourselves little, but not wasted money at this level.... certainly I would nt be comfortable going with less than £2k. best wishes, Mike

Hi Ian

I normally take 1K in cash for tips, car parks, snacks, small gift purchases etc. then 2K in travellers cheques with the trusty back up of the odd credit card or five!

I like the security of having all three payment choices in case any are lost or stolen and then you have immediate back-up of another way to pay.

Having said this I rely heavily on the credit card and normally have loads of TC's left each trip but I just take them on the next one!

When we went this time we had 2k for spending money,and the credit card for top ups just in case. We all ready had tickets also,and found the money to be just enough apart from the odd "disney expenses" which we purchased on credit card.
We was a family of 3, 2adts and 1 child.
Last yrs trip we had 1.5k and just about had enough,and this was without buying the things we had seen!!

I wouldnt go with less than 2k.
And make sure you have a little extra for just in case.

I guess we should be OK with 3K Then I just find it impossible to work out how much we need,THanks everyone for the input,Im staying away from taking credit card Lol Last time I put a Fortune on it buying 80 CDS and a camera stuff I had no intention of buying!!,
I figure this day of the internet you dont have to shop around and pick up bargains you do it all from a controlled enviroment like your front room!!!!
As I say the kids are gonna have $20 each a day out of a seperate fund so they budget for their own souvenirs Well buy them bits but all their gear (One wants eeyore stuff the other Tigger..Bless!!) is down top what they want!!

Not to worry others going on a budget,

The wife and I managed on less than $40 a day between us on our last trip. We had already prepaid for the park tickets, ate a buffett breakfast every day and shopped in walmart for our dinners.

While it could have been better with more cash, I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

This year thankfully our budget is a little more healthy.

being a budget man myself , i took £1500 last time i went in 2001 and i am planning on taking same this year , but thats with tickets and trips pre bought, its only me and girlfriend, i dont think we skimped on anything but then again im easily pleased. Pizza hut on i-drive seemed fancy to me.lol

I think you should give lessons in budget control, if I spent less maybe I could fit in another trip.

Did you stay in a villa as you bought your dinners from Walmart?

I must be useless at this budget thing, Husband and I spent £3000 with already paid for annual passes !

Maybe it is the cost in the hotel for breakfast's and things. I will not do better this time as we are taking grand-daughters and really want to give them a trip to remember.

We usually take around £2K for the two of us in Traveller's cheques and dollars, with credit-card back-up.
On day one, I divide the total number of days into the total amount of spending money available, then after each day, I keep dividing the remainder of the money into the subsequent days left. This way, we always have an idea of the average spending power that we're allowed, right up until the last day.

A friend of mine went last year and budgeted £80 a day per person after park passes, discovery cove are paid for etc. So that is what I plan to do for this trip for myself and my DH. That works out at £2000 for the trip. I think this should be enough.

I am budgeting for around £2k with all passes already purchased. That's for 2 adults and 3 children but we are staying off site and will eat most main meals in off site restaurants ( I don't cook on holiday) with perhaps 4 or 5 over the two weeks on site.

We take $4000 in TC and $100 in cash. So it depends on exchange rate how much we spend. We don't use the credit card for much and managed to bring back $900 this year. Last year we brought back $7

We never spend anywhere near as much as some of you guys.

We (DH, DS12 & me) take about $300 in cash for tolls and drinks, and use credit cards wherever we can.

If we need more cash we use a cashpoint and our normal bank cashpoint cards. You can do this if your card says "cirrus" on the back. Yes you pay a couple of dollars for the privilege, but the exchange rate is better than buying travellers cheques, and if you draw out one larger sum rather than several small you pay the $2ish fee only once.

We usually spend about $50-60 per day on fast food, drinks and ice creams in the parks, depending on how late we are staying. None of us is particularly big on souvenirs. DH spent about $200, DS spent all his $80 and I bought a T shirt for $19!

This totals around $1500 taking into account a couple of "nice" meals out.

We stay in a villa with BIL, SIL and family, and shop at Publix for breakfast, fruit, and evening meals. I don't really count this as holiday expenses as I'd be spending the same at Asda if we were at home! And I don't find putting a pizza in the oven or heating up pasta particularly taxing. Especially if someone else loads the dishwasher afterwards.....

I also bought lots of Christmas and birthday presents - but also not counted as expenses as I'd have spent as much (more probably) at home.

Thanks everybody for the input Im still none the wiser!! I guess its up to the individual and you spend different on holiday so its relative I remember tipping an airport worker $10 for pushing our gear about 50 yards and I thought when I get home that was £6.50 Am I mad!??
