in your area/ We pay 6.5% here - down the road in the next closest town its 8.5%....where dh works 25 mins away its 7%...

was shopping on vacation the other day in a city that charged 10%!!!! I about fell over when I saw that!!!! Thank goodness I didn't buy anything!

Yes it's high here, but of course their 'reasoning' is that we have almost no property tax here in Alabama. I always love the way our local pols think.

7% in NJ--however there are some towns, specific urban fringe towns that are going through redevelopment which were 3%. The 3% may have been raised when the sales tax was raised from 6 to 7 over the sommer.
