Hello all,

This is mine and FH's first trip to Disney together. We will be there for a total of 5 days. We both love Disney, and I love to take pictures.

I have the Sony DSC-P73 which is 4.1 megapixles. I currently have 3 memory cards; a 512mb, 128mb and a 16mb (came with it). Total I can take about 320 pictures at the full 4.1 megapixles.

My question is, in your opinion do I need more? :confused3

I just hate the idea of running out of space, but I would hate to waste the money on a memory stick that I would never need again. :worried:

Thanks for reading this.

Hard to say if that is enough or not. Really only you can answer that. For me, that wouldn't be near enough. That amount would be one or maybe two days tops. And if you both love Disney and taking pictures my guess is it won't be enough for you either. There are a couple places that can download your photos onto a CD right on site or you could invest in a portable drive to store them on until you get home. I would look into these two options before buying more memory you won't use later. But since I have no experience with either I will let someone else give you the details or suggest some other options. Have fun and be sure to share some photos when you return.

If you have a laptop you could take that with you and download your pics from your camera each night, leaving you with empty cards each day at the Parks.

After thinking about it I knew that it wasn't going to be enough. I actually just went on E-bay and the auction for a 1G memory card was just ending. I took a chance and got it for $30! This should bring me to a total of about 816 pictures. I am going to guess (hope) that this should be enough.

We thought about bringing the laptop, but I am not sure if we want to. It would just be nice to be without it for a couple of days. Knowing me, I will just worry so much about not being able to take all the pictures that we will end up taking it...

Thanks for your help!

A laptop is what we take as well. It's nice because there is no worry about whether you have enough memory. Also, if your laptop has a CD or DVD burner, you can go ahead and burn the photos onto a disk. That way you have them on the laptop and disk, just in case something happens to one or the other along the way.

at that price I'd buy 2 more , it's better to have memory that you don't need than to not have it and need it...

and it's still way cheaper than film... and re-usable...

It's never a bad idea to have more memory than you think you'll ever need. It was our last day at WDW when I ran out of memory (I had two 512 meg cards!) and we still had the Holiday Wishes to watch! I had to borrow a card from my brother. I now have two 3 gig cards to go along with the 512 meg cards. :rotfl:

Just a word of caution when buying electronics on Ebay. There are a LOT of counterfeit items on Ebay at the moment and they include memory cards, memory sticks, flash drives, camera batteries, battery chargers, etc., etc. Beware of what you buy. Often if it's too good to be true or if the seller seems to have a lot selling at some crazy low price...be suspicious. I got burned by an Ebayer with a counterfeit battery and it took me 2 months to get my money back from PayPal.

With the low cost of memory today, I would pick up a couiple 1 gig cards. Check the sales, like Best Buy, etc, as well as reputable online vendors.

I've got six one gig cards, each holds 281 photo's, and I"ve had a few times that I've "cut it close".

I agree, memory is so cheap these days that it doesn't make sense to not have more than enough.

No, as in a COUNTERFEIT. He advertised it as a genuine Canon battery. It came in very good counterfeit Canon packaging and looked like a Canon battery but on closer inspection, you could tell it was a counterfeit. It even had a hologram...but not THE hologram that Canon uses.

If you read the community boards on Ebay, you'll note a huge rise of counterfeit items lately...and one of the big booming areas is cheap but unreliable flash memory whether it be flash cards for cameras or the large capacity flash drives. Typically, somebody buys a 4 or 8 gig flash drive off of Ebay and finds out after they use it the first time that only 256 MB are usuable. Apparently, if you go to a certain area of China, you can pick these flash drives up for a buck a piece.

The moral of the story is...if you can find a good deal at a reputable dealer...buy it there. There are more counterfeits on Ebay now than the real thing.
