How much luggage should I expect?

I'm kind of curious, having not cruised in "style" for a long time. We are on the 7 day cruise. Realizing that we need "dressy" clothes for dinners (some fancier than others), clothes for the daytime, and everything else, how much luggage is considered normal per person?

As a family of 5, I am used to taking 2 large cases (26") and one small one (22") to accomodate all of us when we go to WDW for a week. I am beginning to believe that I may need almost twice that for the cruise! I can see one bag just for the fancy clothes and more luggage for everything else. Sports jackets and fancy dresses take up more room because of the "don't want to squash it" factor.

Any thoughts.....

you may not have a choice depending on which airline youre flying. I called Delta this morn and they said only 2 bags per person. If carrying on a bag can only checkin 1 bag. If carrying on nothing can checkin 2 bags.
DS and I will each have a large suitcase and a backpack.

I had heard that. Considering that two of the kids are 6 years old, I can get away with one bag for the two of them (I hope). That gives us an extra bag to play with. I also understand that the airlines have gotten tighter on the size of the bags. If the sum of the dimensions of the bag exceeds 62", they charge $85 and up!

It's going to be interesting!

Oh great! It's always been 2 per person check and 1 carry on plus a purse or briefcase. Now it is two total huh? And by 62" total dimensions I presume you mean height, width, depth? We recently purchased two new ones that are pretty good size but I don't think they exceed that...guess I'd better check!

I tell the everyone in my family they are allowed one suitcase each. If they want to stuff it to the gills...fine...as long as it is one. They are not too big and I know they do not exceed the regulation size.

I found it easy to fit everything in one bag. I usually like to pick a color scheme, like navy, and keep most of my clothes to mix and match. I have no problem wearing something more than once.

The biggest problem is shoes...if you can limit them, you have it made!!!

Are you sure you got that right? Last month, we were able to check two bags per ticketed passenger and still have a carry-on plus a personal item such as purse or briefcase.

Delta allows two checked bags per person. They also allow you to carry one bag in addition to a purse or briefcase.

We're taking snorkeling equipment, and some of my Dh's diving stuff. That's one large bag, and then there's the rolling garment bag for SOME of the dressy things. I think we're going to hit the 2 per person with three of us! Diana

Here are the official rules for US Air:

For each ticketed customer, US Airways will transport free of charge a maximum of three bags:
Up to two (2) bags may be checked free of charge
One (1) bag may be transported as carry-on

Each piece of baggage to be checked without charge cannot exceed a weight of 70 pounds and dimensions of 62 inches, in overall length, width and height.

An extra charge applies for additional, overweight, and/or oversized pieces. In no event will US Airways accept baggage that weighs more than 100 pounds and/or baggage that measures in single dimensions more than 72 inches or combined dimensions exceeding 115 inches. Special items such as pets, surfboards, bicycles, scuba equipment, etc. are not included in the customer's free baggage allowance and are subject to an extra charge.

Carry-on baggage is limited to one piece per customer, plus a personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop, small backpack, diaper bag or camera case. The personal item cannot exceed total overall dimensions of 36 inches, and the other item of baggage cannot exceed the following maximum dimensions:

Valet Closet--4x23 1/2x45
Overhead Stowage--10x16x24
Underseat Stowage--8x16x21
Both items cannot exceed a total combined weight of 40 pounds. Carry-on baggage allowance may be restricted due to lack of space.

We just flew round trip on US Air and it was two checked in bags per person not weighing more than 70 pounds each. 1 carry on bag plus a camera bag or purse per person. I carried our camera bag and a bag for books and CD player. Better half had her travel bag and our overnight bag.
We checked 3 bags going down and 4 coming back. Had to have another bag for the Mexican hammock and tequilla.

Things are a little slower than before but 20 - 30 minutes max to be checked in and get to the gate anywhere we went.

We had three large suitcases, one smaller roll-on, a garment bag and three small tote bags.

But...we were also spending six days at WDW on top of the seven day cruise.

Next time I will leave some things out--like beach towels--that took up a lot of room and I didn't really need.

But next time will be two back-to-back seven day cruises...
