How much longer will Disney be using Shutters?

My experience with Shutters was a nightmare....Last night Thursday all of their servers were down and they started handing out IPads....You had to spend about 1.5 hours deleting pictures and then adding to create photo book....After all of this was finally done my ipad locked up again and just had to hand ipad over to a shutters employees who said she would send it on....I asked the shutter employee if this happened all the time, and she said this was a first for her in 4 years.....So not sure what was going on, still waiting for my photo book, who knows if I will get it or not but if I don't they will be hearing from me, these books were not cheap...

Have heard you usually walk off the boat with yours, but not this cruise...Agree that last night was just chaotic, not enough time to get all of these photos done and space and time to get this done with the time you have...Has to be a better way of doing this, like having so many days once you get home to take your time and go through and pick out photos, that would be better then my experience first week of May on Dream..

we usually buy the 'all photo's' package whenever we cruise so get to know the photographers pretty well. Last year on the EBPC we got on especially well with Yiling and Daniella and had some great shots from them as they knew we liked something a little less 'standard '
Fast forward to last week when we were on Celebrity Eclipse out of the UK and before we boarded the ship, we spotted Yiling taking the boarding photographs and it was like greeting a long lost relative! If you check the pre-purchase website, the same photography company runs the photography department for DCL, Celebrity and RCCL and the staff can be placed on any line / ship.
For info, the price on Celeb for all photo's for 5 nights was 250 USD (which included the CD is you bought during the first 2 days).

I agree! DCL needs to make major improvements here. Shutters, or the company they have contracted with to run Shutters, is pretty dreadful. I could live with the exhorbitant prices if there were more photo opps with shorter lines - especially character opps around meal times and candids on Castaway Cay (which used to be much more plentiful 10 years ago), and there was an option to remove the borders from the pictures. It's also ludicrous to charge so much for printed pictures on top of the very high CD price (when they're going to throw away those pictures anyway).

Here's my story..

My family returned from our disney's cruise aboard the magic
I per order the photo cd that included ALL of you photos..
We took lots of picutres, checked our photos every night.. On our last night I confrimed that ALL our photos would be on the cd. They again said yes.

I picked up my cd the next morning and went on our way home..
Upon returning home I popped the CDs to find 1/2 my photos are missing and From what I did get 12 have big brown bold lines through them..

I called disney.. They sent me to shutters company website..
I contacted them and they said to send them a few photos of all my family.. There were going to send it to the magic and have them run it through the soft wear and find ALL my pictures..

. I'd called and emailed and I'll I'm getting is "we should have something soon"
I had plan to use those photos In a Photo book for my mother for Mother's Day. Along with other photo pass pictures we had taken at WDW.

Well Mother's Day came and went. And my photopass photos from WDw set to expire next week.. If shutters doesn't get them to me in time.. I have no use for them since now my photopass photos will have expired.

For $300+ you would think they would double check the CDs.
Ask for refund? Wait it out? Something else??...........

Update: MOST of photos were found.. (10-12 could not be recovered)
Was sent a link in an email to download photos.
Will not be receiving a re-print CD..

They said there's Nothing more they can do and left it at that.. NOT HAPPY
The whole process took about a month!! And since it was an outside company disney can not do anything. Really ruined the post disney magic for me..

Disney NEEDS to bring thier photopass from the parks to thier ships!
It would make fore a much better experience.. I really don't understand why they haven't done it already..

I also wanted to add here
After asking multiple times for those candid shots and I ended up with pose shots.
I went an got a CM before our royal princess gathering and had them tell the shutters photographers exactly what I wanted.. Out of the 3 princesses I got ONE candid shot!

Thank heavens we went to WDW before this or we would have had no candid shots of our entire trip.

I agree about the candid shots. A few posed photos are fine, even half, but I would love candid shots at the pool, kids club, trivia , bingo. This what has stopped me from getting the CD, or even many photos, honestly.

Will the CM take candid shots with your camera if you kindly request? TIA!

Yes, if there is a handler with a character they will take candid pictures with your camera. We had a few of those. When we met Stitch the CM took about 12 pictures of us playing with Stitch. However, I can't put those pictures into my Shutters' photo book. Shutters was the only think on my rating card that got a "just ok" rating while everything else got Excellent. It was very disappointing after years of having fabulous Photopass experiences and pictures to end up with such horrible pictures at the end of a 3 night cruise. We searched all through the "lost pictures" and only found 3 pictures of us.

I, too, was told I would walk off the ship with my photobook in hand, but then on the last night of the cruise was told it would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. If it isn't wonderful I will be complaining loudly to both Shutters and Disney.

Wow, "6-8 weeks"? We were told our photo book would be mailed to us in 2-3 weeks. It's been 2 weeks so far; so, we'll see.

Yea where did 6 to 8 weeks come from, sounds like they just made up a time frame and randomly told different people different timeframes...They told us 2 to 3 weeks, and its been now 4 weeks with nothing to show for...

I have to agree that the company running Shutters is really bad. The pictures are really more snapshot quality and the prices are too high for what you get. DW prepurchased the photo package before our cruise last month but we are just not impressed with the quality, especially given the price.

It is particularly puzzling that Disney uses an outside company for photography on the ships given the huge success of the Photopass system and photographers in the parks.

The most helpful thing that I can say here is to let Disney know about the experiences that you have with Shutters. If you have issues, stop by Guest Services and let them know. Also, make sure that you fill out the comment card at the end of the cruise. Every part of our cruise got high ratings except for Shutters. If Disney gets enough negative feedback on the company running Shutters, they will do something about it. Disney is one of the best companies out there for customer service and they don't want a vendor scarring that reputation.

We purchased the $300 CD, picked it up the morning we were leaving ( as we were told to do), and went home. We got home and excitedly put into our computer to look at our pictures and remember our cruise...only to find we had been given a CD of pictures OF ANOTHER FAMILY! It took well over a month to get a CD with our family pictures and all the pictures weren't even all there when we finally did receive it.

Maybe the qualify of photographers vary by ship, but I have to say that we had great experiences with Shutter's photographers on our last 2 cruises. In Norway, the photographers were on the pier when you got off the ship, they were on excursions, they were taking candid photos at the Frozen party and I have never had so many pictures waiting in my "book." I just ended up buying the entire lot because I could not select just 20. The same in Alaska, they were taking candid photos on Tracy Arm day. Personally, I would not want Shutters photographers taking candid shots on the ship. That is why I bring my own camera.

In addition, there are only so many photographers on the ship and with character meet & greets going one almost all day during sea days, they just don't have the time to go around and take candid pictures around the ship.

Other than the process of receiving photos (which there's room for improvement in all things), I really don't see how Photopass will change how pictures are taken on the ship.

We are going on our very first cruise ever next summer, (with Disney) and I was wondering about the photogs using your camera. At DisneyWorld they will sometimes do that. Anyone know about the ships???

There is always a CM who will take a photo on your camera if you request it.
