Hi,

I'm taking the family to Orlando for 4 weeks and I wanted to know how much we will need to have a decent time.

I have already booked and paid for our accommodation, car hire and all our theme park tickets so I need to know how much I will realistically need for everything else while were there. We are staying offsite so can't take advantage of having food included at our hotel.

Our kids are 6 and 4.

I was thinking around $7.5k to $8k will this be enough?

Cheers,

That sounds high to me. But if you're eating at table service restaurants 3 times a day, and want to do some extra things like Le Cirque and water parks, plus souvenirs, I guess things can really add up.

I'd probably estimate about $1000 per week for food. If you plan on eating out the whole time, maybe a little more to include tips. Less if you are staying somewhere where you can cook your own meals periodically. My husband and I, as two adults usually manage to spend about $600 on souveniers on our one week trip. You have a better idea of the kinds of things your children and yourselves will want, so my best advise is maybe set a budget for shopping and try to stick to it so theres no suprises there.

Hello! I don't know if you have perhaps looked at some of the restaurant menus of the places you are thinking of eating to get an idea of your budget? Where you are staying off-site, will you have a kitchen or kitchenette where you will do simple meal prep? Do you prefer every meal to be a sit down meal, or will you be doing quick service? Also, you will need to figure in such expenses as parking fees (I think it is currently $17/day at WDW), tips for sit down meals, tips for baggage handlers, room cleaning staff, etc. You may want to look at where your hotel is located and see what restaurants/stores are close by to give yourself a better idea. I don't know if you are looking to get a lot of souvenirs? We have been getting the kids Disney gift cards to use, I generally budget around $200-250/day(USD)[for 2 quick service meals and 1 table service meal and 1 snack a day] and never spend it all. Have a great trip!

as they are staying offsite for a month, I'd guess they have a house / condo so they should be eating a lot of meals there -- which should push their food budget to a lot less than $1K a week.

That said -- food will likely be their biggest variable expense for the trip. Only the OP knows if they plan on eating out an expensive place every meal or if they will live on PB&J for a month. If they eat out a couple of meals a day, $1K a week is probably close to achievable (as that's an avg of $143 a day)

Honestly, staying off site (and excluding meals for those days spent in the parks) - I'd guess my family of 4 would most likely not spend $1K the entire month as we would end up eating most meals (especially breakfast) in our condo.

Hi

Thanks for the replys

As we're staying in a house offsite the bulk of our meals will be at home. We will probably have either lunch or dinner out on the days we go to a park (15 days in total) and eat the other meal at home as the kids will probably need a break or an early night. We will also pack snacks etc

The places we will eat out will be places like tgi Fridays, hard rock, Denny's etc so nothing super fancy.

We've given the kids $500 each for souviners.

So judging from what your saying if I take $8k then this should be plenty?

$500 EACH just toward souvee's for a 6 and 4 year old? Wow, that is very generous. You could add another week to your trip for that lol. Sounds like a fantastic trip and lots of memories to be made. Enjoy!

So you should be fine with 7K. I have two young adult men and myself. I budget 200 dollars a day for food. for 4 weeks (28 days) that brings my total up to $5,600. Now for my family that's generous as like you I have access to a full kitchen so some days we do eat in our villa. So if I threw in the $1,000 extra for souveniers (sp) that would bring the total to 6,600. almost a full thousand under your lower limit. You're probably really high on the souvenier budget, especially for young kids.
With 7500 you'll be more than fine.

OP, you might want to rethink this. $500 each for a 4 and 6 year old for souvenirs for a trip is pretty over the top. Did you really mean $50 each?

Really? For a month long vacation? I think it is reasonable. I know that I easily spent $150 on DD on just our day at DHS last summer. If I was going to Orlando for a month I would budget pretty high too.

Everyone vacations differently. Honestly $50 would buy maybe a big stuffed animal and a keychain. Granted $50 is what my kids usually get but we are there for a week and are not big fans of souvenirs. The toy castle is about $100 alone. Those princess dresses or avengers costumes are almost $70! Let alone if they are coming from overseas and what to shop at the malls. etc.

OP I would definitely sign up for emails for coupons from local restaurants. We get loads of coupons from Chevy's which is a yummy mexican restaurant near Downtown Disney when I signed up while we were in Orlando. I know other good restaurants have promos you can sign up for like for Japanese steakhouses or seafood places. I think the amount you have is very generous to have a great time. I would say for 4 it would allow you to eat out a lot with putt putt and many other activities.
